A tomato fight on a large scale is to be held on September 2 in Fgura.

Over 2000 kilos of poor quality tomatoes have already been ordered, Fgura local council officials said.

The fight will be part of the Fgura Arts ad Food Fighting Festival.

The festival will be held between 5 and 11 pm and participants will pay a contribution for l-Istrina.

Participants will wear eye protection and showers will be available.

The activity will be held at Valperga Street, below the bastions, adjacent to the Football ground.

The event will be spread over three different areas. The main stage will feature different Maltese bands, including MsLeads, Ivan Filletti & Friends and Airport Impressions live in Concert.

The tomato fight will take place in a confined area, similar to a big plastic cage, set up for the event.

A kids area is to be set up including various games, face painting, balloon modelling, magic show and a special 17 metres x 12 car track.

Various food and drinks stalls are to be set up by various Fgura voluntary organizations.

The activity was launched this morning by Parliamentary Assistant David Agius, who said the activity is being held with central government financial assistance. He said that in the past four years the government handed out almost €1 million as subsidies to local councils to organise 222 cultural events in their respective localities.
