Swim with a record breaker
Click on Strel’s website and two half-naked Slovenians toting swimming caps and goggles will pop up unnervingly to tell you about their passion for swimming.
They know what they are talking about though; Martin Strel swam the entire length of the Amazon River, the Yangtze, the Mississippi and most of the Danube and entered the Guinness Book of World Records multiple times. His company organises swimming holidays in some of the most beautiful waters of the US, Slovenia, Croatia and beyond. www.strel-swimming.com

Do the Flowers Sea Swim and win
If you’ve been training in Malta and want a goal to aim for, the June 15, 2013 Flowers Sea Swim is perfect. It’s held in the impossibly lovely Caribbean Sea around Grand Cayman and the course is a mile long.
Participants range from kids to octogenarians. Beginners are welcome but you’ll be up against Olympic medallists so your chances of winning are fairly slim.
If you complete the course though, you’ve a one in five chance of winning a rather marvellous random prize. Previous offerings have included Ipads, hotel stays and dozens of airline tickets to worldwide destinations. And when you hit dry land again, you can recover on white, sunkissed beaches. Pass me the goggles!
Entry costs €25 but places are limited so register early online. www.flowersseaswim.com.
