The 20th annual World Children’s Picture Contest is currently being organised by the Ie-No-Hikari Association in Japan. This year’s theme is the environment and participants are being asked to draw pictures on agriculture, farming, nature, local people or even people within the family environment.

The competition is open to children aged six to 15. Participants are to submit one picture, which must be the work of only one young artist. Children taking part are to submit their drawings to the Office of the Commissioner for Children, 16/18, Tower Promenade, St Luċija, SLC 1019, by September 14 at 1 p.m to be sent to the organisers in Japan.

In last year’s edition, Kathleen Bulteel, 14, received a bronze prize for her picture entitled Micc at Work and seven-year-old Martina Portelli received an honourable mention for her picture entitled The Farmer.

The winners will be announced in January, 2013.

A list of specifications for submitting a picture may be found on the website of the Commissioner for Children, www.tfal.org.mt. For further information e-mail Suzanne Gili on suzanne.gili@gov.mt.
