Two pregnant prostitutes yesterday received suspended prison sentences after they were found guilty of defrauding a woman of €3,580.

Amanda Camilleri, 27, and her sister Donna, 26, who are both heavily pregnant, withdrew cash using a stolen driving licence to pay the doctor’s fees and fund their drug habit.

Appearing before Magistrate Neville Camilleri, the sisters from Paola were arraigned by Police Inspector Jason Francis Sultana for defrauding Katya Psaila Savona and falsifying her signature.

They used her driving licence to withdraw considerable amounts of cash from her bank account, using branches in Msida, Gżira, Qormi, San Ġwann and Birkirkara between August 10 and 17. They were ordered to pay back Dr Psaila Savona the money within six months as they were handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years.

In a separate case, a 21-year-old from Msida was arraigned by Police Inspector Sultana for stealing bottles of alcohol from Gala Supermarket in Ta’ Xbiex on August 22.

Clifton Attard admitted to the charges and confessed he had a drug problem.

Magistrate Camilleri reprimanded him for already having a criminal record at such a young age, and warned him this was his last chance. He was sentenced to three years probation.
