Wastserv has lauched a new campaign whereby for every 10 empty plastic bottles taken to one of its civic amenity sites, a free ticket will be given for lottery that will be drawn every three months.

The top prizes are two vouchers of €500 each offered by Homemate and two vouchers of €50 each are being offered by The Point.

The ‘Collect and win with plastic bottles’ campaign is aimed at reducing the amount of litter left on streets, beaches, promenades and other public places. It also aims to raise awareness about the civic amenity sites in Mrieħel, Magħtab, Luqa, Ħal Far and Xewkija, and increase their use by the public not only to dispose bulky refuse but also for all types of recyclable materials.

Plastic bottles collected through this lottery campaign will be taken to the Sant’Antnin Waste Treatment Plant managed by Wasteserv to be added to other plastic waste collected by the other collection schemes authorised by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, namely the waste from bring-in sites and the door-to-door collection service using grey or green bags.

Here the plastic waste will be prepared in bales and sold to private companies for export and processing into other items such as garden furniture, vehicle parts, stationery and items of clothing such as rain coats and branded sportswear.
