Final salute to Dom Mintoff as state funeral ends
The state funeral of former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff was held today in Valletta and Floriana. Hundreds of people lined Valletta's streets and packed St John's Co-Cathedral for the final farewell to the 96-year-old former Prime Minister, who died on Monday.
The funeral was led by President George Abela, accompanied by Malta's political leaders.
A particularly poignant moment was reached when, as the coffin was carried out of St John's Co-Cathedral, the crowd burst out into spontaneous singing of the National Anthem.
Another emotional moment for those present was when, at the end of the funeral, the Maltese flag which had draped the coffin, was presented to Mr Mintoff's daughters by the Commander of the AFM, Brig. Martin Xuereb.
This is how today's funeral unfolded (pls go to the bottom and scroll up):

Photo: Darrin Zammit Lupi. He, however, points to two virtues which distinguished Mr Mintoff. The first was his interpretation of the Lord’s command to Love thy neighbour, especially the poor.
While not everybody could agree with Mr Mintoff’s methods, no one could deny that he sought better conditions for the workers and the poor, Mgr Cremona said.

These were two virtues which distinguished his life.

A funeral route marked by important symbols
The state funeral brought to an end a political journey that was as long as it was controversial.
Mr Mintoff was Labour leader for 35 years until 1984 and prime minister from 1955 to 1958 and 1971 to 1984.
The route that the funeral followed, although similar to previous state funerals, had huge significance for those who followed Mr Mintoff's political life.
Mr Mintoff alongside Sir Anthony Mamo when Malta was declared a republic. The Palace in Valletta, where lying in state continued this morning, was the seat of Parliament, where Mr Mintoff served for a record of almost 51 years. It was from the Palace balcony where he waved to the people in the rain swept evening of December 13, 1974 when Malta was declared a republic.
The funeral cortege marched out to the Palace Square - the scene of the last parade by British and Maltese forces before the British base closed down on March 31, 1979.
The funeral then continued to St John's Co-Cathedral, where funeral Mass was led by Archbishop Paul Cremona.
Dom Mintoff with his rival Archbishop Gonzi. The funeral then emerged from St John's, opposite the bust of Nationalist leader Nerik Mizzi, Mr Mintoff's first political opponent from the PN. He served as prime minister for just three months in 1950 after having been exiled by the British in the war years. Mr Mintoff later called him Malta's greatest patriot.
After the Mass, the funeral proceeds up Merchants' Street, past the Foreign Ministry. Mr Mintoff had, for most of his years as prime minister, retained direct ministerial responsibility for foreign and home affairs, instead of appointing ministers for those areas.
The funeral then passed in front of the monument to Sir Paul Boffa, Mr Mintoff's predecessor as leader of the Labour Party. Mr Mintoff had split the party and ousted Dr Boffa in 1949 amid differences over compensation by the British for Malta's war damage and eligibility for funds from the Marshall Plan. Many felt he had humiliated Dr Boffa. It was Mr Mintoff himself who later issued instructions for the building of the monument.
A few metres on and the funeral pased in front of the main door of the Auberge de Castille. It was Mr Mintoff who converted the building into the Office of the Prime Minister - moving it from the Auberge d'Aragon. He will be remembered for the way how he used to bound up the steps on arrival for work.
The funeral then proceeded past the monument of Manuel Dimech, whom Mr Mintoff admired, and a waving George Borg Olivier. Many will doubtlessly wonder how long it will take for a monument to Mr Mintoff to be erected close by.
The funeral then proceeded down Glormu Cassar Avenue, like Dom Mintoff, one of Malta's best known architects.

Archbishop Cremona's eulogy for Mintoff is fine as far as eulogies go. He means well, his heart in the right place.
From where I am standing, he made it sound like Mintoff was not altogether a bad guy because he carried out the Christian message, ie 'love thy neighbour'. I would add that one does not have to follow the Christian message in order to do this. One can equally follow the 'godless-if-you-like' Socialist message in order to achieve the same result. Same difference.
Of course it would be expected for a great politician to be honoured with a great and solemn funeral, even if he has not revolutionised from Castille for many years but whose legacy will echo through the ages, and whose benefits are of the here and now. I get the feeling that, judging by some comments here, some of the 'dignitaries' (of not the popolin) were present under sufferance and would rather have been elsewhere. And that is fine. The man IS great and that is all that matters. Anything else is so not his problem, now especially that he's gone to...........
A final thank you Dumink, for teaching me how to rebuff to my advantage the vilification of a ħamallu(ruffian-good-for-nothing-low-life') boy for daring to be a member of your Pijunieri

One has to also think of the thousands of Maltese around the four corners of the Planet my Family included who watched the State Funeral from start to finish ..we were present in our thoughts and respect.. I am sure if I were in Malta ..regardless of my past disagreements with the Great man's politics..I would have been there to say thank you for if not anything ..he had Malta's interests at his Heart First and Foremost, whether we like it or not!! Today I still don't agree with certain things done or said but also know that many times He was absolutely right and I was wrong ! I

Were those inside the co cathedral a bunch of hamalli from Bormla?? I'm sure that they were not. Hamalli aren't allow to be in there during a state's funeral. So this shows to the general public that during the cortège in Cospicua, the Bormlizi were not alone both in Church and in the streets. When the crowd shouted 'Mintoff Mintoff" it was something which came naturally for them.
Start treat us Bormlizi like all others please.

Facts ; All the British will always love Malta , especially the Queen who lived in Villa Gwardamangia , just a modest townhouse. Mintoff married an English woman and his father was in the Royal Navy. Mintoff wanted to integrate with U.K. ; Mintoff failed so he petulantly u-turned to kick out the British-like self harm. Yet within 1 generation Malta sells out to the failed EURO . Malta now belongs to Germany , the very country that bombed Malta in WW11. The political classes have failed Malta. Malta currently has its defensive military pact with Italy , a country that bombed Malta in WW11.[ Britain still defends its dependancies-The Falklands and Gibraltar both would have been taken over if not for the Brits.]
All the beautiful stone barracks where not a blade of grass out of place, now shrouded in detritus. All of the small fields increasingly covered in concrete. All of the beaches ringed in boat houses. All of the Maltese houses being torn down to make way for ' tal peppe' flats-the garbage floating in the sea.All the birds..Malta cant blame the brits anymore.
Malta had it all and STILL has it all. It's is the safest place in the world. .We are in the ' post post ' colonial era. So get over Mintoff. He made it uneccessarily hard for the expats ;some were pensioners, some were children. But its ok , The British still love Malta. The bond is unbreakable. To think not defies gravity. Good luck Malta , it will be OK but watch out for the EURO.

Mintoff may be portrayed as is-Salvatur ta' Malta or the politician who brought true independence to the islands with the creation of a Republic. At the end of the day, however, he is the one who brought 'Enlightenment' to Malta, somethings that happened in France in the eightenteenth century. The Maltese hierarchy opposed him with as muvh figour as the Gallican Church opposed people like Rousseau and Voltaire.

I do not submit my views often but today as I read some of the comments I got really disgusted at some of the hatred that existed for this man whose ONLY purpose in life was to get Malta what it deserved. He really put us on the map. Yes our Island was always there with its nice beaches and horrendous travel conditions. Yes we did have beggars beside the Gate at Valleta. Most of these people, perhaps are too young to remember but I am sure that their parents know all the good things that this man, with all his ability, dexterity and love for his beloved Island. Why don;t these people shit up and stop writing these things. Who cares how many people attended the funeral this morning? Who cares about the state funeral? Someone wrote that we should thank the Nationalist Party Leader Mr. Gonzi because he organized the state funeral. Nobody has to thank Mr, Gonzi for anything because Mr. Dom Mintoff was a a prime minister for three times and his deeds speak for themselves. The government would have been embarist if they did not offer to hold a state funeral for him. What these people should look at is the amount of moiney being thrown away on stupid and idiotic projects that is causing tax payers a pretty penny or should I say Euros?

In my opinion Mr Mintoff was the right person at the right time in the right place. He was what Malta needed at that time. Sure we didn,t have Mars but we did have social housing, a good health system, adequate social benefits, factories, tourism, airmalta, seamalta , Mid-med, BOV, lohumbus and don,t know what else. And all without any deficit. Now we have moved on . But at what expense. Even Greece made progress in these last decades. Soon we are going to be needing another Mintoff to pull us out of this pit. Hope Malta will be lucky second time around.
Meanwhile RIP Mr. Mintoff

@ Mr or Ms Trapani.
Nobody is forcing you or anyone else to follow such an extraordinary event. If you are following all the news, bloggs etc it can mean that you are exactly confirming the importance of Dom Mintoff through your attention. History is history and nobody can change it. For those who genuinely have the whole truth at heart, from now on we can only strive to uncover further details. Yes, he was man enough to stay out of politics and left the PN to do their thing for the last 25 years. Today, as an individual with many others, you can only speak for yourself on how much we have progressed but in the coming general election a collective verdict will settle all our questions. Rest in peace Perit Mintoff!

Dom Mintoff a great statesman who changed the way we were in the 70’s to the way we live today.
I have read quite a few blogs over the last few days extremists from both end Nationalists and Labourites, though I have come to realise that the maturity and respect of some writers have long gone or not yet discovered. Writers take the opportunity of such a blog to insult and come in dispute over the past and what has happened especially who did what.
Respect the families or the deceased as certain comment leave much to be desired.
Like Eddie Fenech Adami said Mintoff did a lot of positive to this very country and sure that the good done surpasses the bad.
Thanks has to be given to the President Dr. Abela, Prime Minister Dr. Gonzi and all authorities who organise the State Funeral well done .

If this fact has touched a sore point for some, there is nothing they can do about it. Shame on certain Maltese individuals, after all that this Great Man has done for Malta and its people!

I watched the funeral online this morning in Yorkshire with my Maltese mother and English father and we thought Malta gave Dom Mintoff a fine send off , my parents throughout were recalling there memories of this man , and even between them views are mixed .Today is the day to remember above all that he loved Malta and whatever he did rightly or wrongly he thought it was in Malta interest others may disagree .Today it is rare to find a politician with strong beliefs who will not compromise them , hence why the public have no trust in them today , but fair to say you could not say that about Dom Mintoff . So now time will tell how history will look upon Dom Mintoff but one thing is for sure his name will be forever a part of Malta past and if they are favourable to him its future .RIP

L- hekk imsejha IL-MIZBLA kienet il-parti tac-cimiterju li kienu jindifnu fiha dawk li ma kienux ta' twemmin Kattolik Apostoliku Ruman. Din il-parti tac-cimiterju kienet tkun mifruda mill-parti l-ohra fejn kienu jindifnu dawk ta twemmin Kattoliku Appostoliku Ruman, permezz ta hajt gholi biex l-anqas tkun tidher. Il-lum dan il-hajt twaqqa darba ghal dejjem fdawk ic-cimiterji li huma propjeta tal-Gvern. Dan il-pass kien hadu il-Gvern ta Mintoff. Il-Kurja u mhux il-Knisja Maltija kellha kull dritt li ma thallix qassis jattendi funeral ta min trid hi, dejjem bir-responsabilita quddiem Alla ta dan l-att anti Krisjan, imma ma kellha l-ebda dritt li iccahdek milli tindifen gewwa propjeta tieghek. Min wettaq jew ordna dawn l-affarijiet ghandu jirrispondi lil Alla u mhux fuq il-gurnali.
Ic-Cimiterji ta' Marija Addollorata f'Malta u ta Santa Marija f'Ghawdex kienu u ghadhom propjeta amministrata mil-Gvern tal-gurnata. Hafna mill-oqbra huma propjeta ta' familji u individwi, imma l-anqas gewwa hwejgek ma kont tista tindifen, ghax hekk riedet il-Kurja.
U dan sar bi ftehim, bil permess u bir-ridea tal-Gvern tal Partit demokristjan Nazzjonalista tas-snin sittin.
Fl-ahhar sur Angelo Vassallo, nistiednek xi darba izzur ic-cimiterju ta' Santa Marija ta' Ghawdex u tara kif thalliet il-parti hekk imsejha IL-MIZBLA wara xi hsarat fil-hitan. Sur Vassallo, Il-Mizbla kienet post fejn jitfghu l-fdalijiet tal-Oqbra, ghalek jghidulha l-Miabla, jew fil-50ijiet nies li mhux ta' religjon Nisranija kienu jindifnu fic-cimiterju tal-Inglizi jew Tat-Torokk u mhux fl-Addolorata. F'din il-Mizbla ghamlu post fejn jidfnu lil tal-MLP. Ghandi nghidlek li hadd hlief tal-MLP ma qatt gie midfun hemm.
Ghndi nghidlek li kieku l-funeral sar fuq il-Fosos konna nimlewhom ukoll. Jien wasalt il-Belt tard waqt il-quddiesa, kien hemm nies li kienu diga serjrin lura d-dar, u ohrajn li bhalli kienu ghadhom dehlin. In-nies kienu mferxin f'hafna postijiet differenti u meta ghada minn quddiemhom kien hemm minn telaq lura lejn id-dar u kien hemm minn nizel lejn il-Furjana. Igiefieri l-folla qatt ma kienet f'post wiehed fl-istess hin.

This very imposing funeral is a message to all politicians: no matter how powerful they may be, in the end everybody will meet their maker, believer or non believer. May the politicians of Malta be humbled by the fact that what really counts in the end is how much they strive for the common good of the nation. Short of that, it is all smoke and mirrors, memories and biased opinions.

Int b'min tried tqarraq Sur Vassallo? Il-mizbla kient parti mic-cimiterju li ma kienetx ikkonsagrata. You must be too young than, for you to comment that Mintoff's funeral was the greatest that Malta has seen. I to like you, have only seen the latest state funerals, but my father who s in his late 80s remembers Nerik Mizzi's state funeral. T that time we were still under British rule, so his state funeral was a funeral where there were all the armed forces, all the dignitaries. The British treated Nerik badly during the war, but they honoured him in his death

Mintoff gave the Maltese self esteem which was lacking in most of us being colonials to a foreign nation. He was instrumental in implimenting so many social justice reforms and worked tirelessly towards improving the conditions of those most vulnerable and the poor.

The more I think about death. the more I enrich my life. Living with a continuous of awareness of my mortality reminds me of how precious and meaningful every minute of life is.
Personally, I prefer to take on death to the expectation that there's a pleasant afterlife awaiting us. That might be comforting to contemplate on a deathbed. But when to-day I attended the funeral of giant Dom and heard all about that he accomplished in his life. I thought not of an afterlife but of this life and what I myself might accomplish and leave behind on this earth.

Truly great men will always be revered by their supporters and demonised by their opponents.Even as a life-long Nationalist, I have nothing but complete admiration for his selfless dedication to his people and his country.
Whether or not you agreed with his policies in life, let us not forget that he gave the most precious commodity a man could have out of his beliefs and love for his country and fellow citizens.
Time to lay down old rivalries, time to lay down the burden and remember him with respect for whether you were an oppenent or a follower, you cannot deny that he was a gret man who gave his all. Irrespective of politics, I am proud to be Maltese and to recognise great men like him whose tenacity, courage and dedication is what sets us, the Maltese as a nation apart from the rest of the world and continues to shine the light of these islands on the world stage.

Well done to a very well prepared and beautiful state funeral. And well done to the AFM parade, the AFM Band, to all the AFM officers and personnel involved and to the Staff Sergeants who formed part of the Catafalque Guard. As usual you have made a nation proud. A state funeral, and one such as this in tremendous heat, takes a week long of rehearsals and sacrifices. As an army , you suffer from constant negative scrutinising, but believe me, you should be so proud of yourselves. Well done once again. It would be a very good idea if a commemorative DVD is set up with all his meetings up to the State Funeral. For sure this will be sought by many and apart from making some money for the Party it helps those who are studying politics or put their minds to do so. Dom.Mintoff was a great Politician which Malta has ever seen and most probably most of the world. He was a great fighter for his country's benefits and didn't hasitate to put his views with big countries than ours. May GOD bless his doings and embrace him in heaven with all the other Saints.

So, one of Malta's noblest son has been put to rest in a deservedly stately style (ironically he did not like formalities).
Gone but forever etched in our innermost part of the heart where it touches the soul.
The father of a freer Malta and architect of the Republic.
The man who showed the world what Christian love is really all about. He put into practice what he believed in and preached.
It would take a long time to fill the void brought by his demise.
RIP Dom!

Proset kbira lill organizzaturi tal-funeral, u tal-kliem meqjus u talb tal-fidili fejn gabar dak kollu li kien jemmen fih Duminku Mintoff u mhux biss imma wettqu. Sab hafna kurrenti kontra tieghu kif ukoll niftakar kien sab Dun George Preca ( illum qaddis taghna il-Maltin). Donnu kull min jghamel il-gid irid jaddi minn martirju u saggrifficcji kbar. Imma it-tnejn baqu perseveranti sa' l-ahhar ghax kienu jemmnu li huma qedien fit-tajjeb u mhux l-ohrajn. In-nies urit bil-fatti kemm kien f'qalbhom il-Perit Mintoff, u bir-ragun jibkuh ghax jafu x'ghamel ghalihom , ghal uliedhom u ghall pajjiz kollu. Ma' kienx jiddelitta bl-ilbies ghax kien ried ihossu li hu wiehed minnha il-Haddiema u ghax ukoll kien jemmen li mhux il-libsa tghamlek Prim Ministru imma dak li temmen fih u twettqu. Kien ihoss il-polz tac-cittaddin u mhux jinqata minnhom. Beda mill aktar bghatut linqas li jiflah u baqa tiela il-fuq. Ha hsieb mit-twelied ta' tarbija sa' kemm tigi li tieqaf mix-xoghol. Dan ghamlu bit- Childrens Allowance sa' l-Pensjoni li qatt ma' kellhom il-Maltin. Bir-ragun jibkuh in-nies ta' rieda tajba ghax jafu xtilfu. Kull cheque li jircievu tac-Children Allowance u Pensjoni se' jibqa jfakkarhom fih ( Dominku Mintoff) . Dan il-bniedem sofra hafna minhabba fina u ghalhekk ghandna nibqu niftakru fih sa' mewtna. J'alla li l-ispirtu tieghu, l-ezempji li taghna li jiggieled ghal pajjizu sa' l-ahhar jitkebbsu gew qalbna u f'dawk li jmexxuna biex jaraw li dik li ksibna ma' nitilfuhx kif ukoll li nibqu nibnu fuqu u mhux inhottuh. Kif ukoll ghalkemm zghar, inkunu ta' ezempju ghall pajjizi ferm akbar minnha. Mintoff kull fejn kien jinbed xi glied kien ikun minn ta' quddiem biex jipprova jirrikkonciljhom ghax kien jaf li bil-glied ibghati kullhadd, specjalment li jmutu hafna nies innocenti. Nirringrazzjak Mulej li ghogbok tislifna lil dan il-bniedem biex jehlisna mill-faqar u jizra ezempji tajba fina. RIP. PERIT u kondoljanzi lil familjari tieghu mill gdid.

I have confidence to say I will not be able to excel what other have wrote on this great man while he was with us, more will write of Mintoff merit and misery he and his family went so today's younger generation take for granted, all because of this man and others of his time.
Today the church authority endow us with their pious serve, a holy funeral mass that Mintoff would have loved, simple but from the heart.
Usually I find some fault with the show of the armed forces, this time their proficient display did us honor to us all, and hope they will kept this level of integrity.
Also a job well done to all those involved be they the police, the camera men and all behind the scene.
No wonder the people in a choral voice sung the 'National Anthem' to a local hero and a man who believed that no one should be left behind.
Prosit!

Mintoff irnexxieu jaghmel dan billi irnexxielu jiddomina l-Assembleja kostitwenti -li kienet twwaqqfet apposta sabiex tiddrafftja l-kostituzzjoni tas-sena 1947 - billi holoq allejanza bejn ir-rapprezentanti tal-Partit Laburista u r-rapprezentanti ta' diversi kazini tal-banda u ta' diversi Ghaqdiet socjali ohra. Iva dak iz-zmien ir-rapprezentanti tal - Kazini u ta' l-Ghaqdiet socjali kienu jigu mistiedna sabiex jiehdu sehem fl-iddraftjar tal-Kostituzzjoni bhala rapprezentanti tal-poplu. U dan kollu Mintoff kien ghamlu minkejja li kien ghadu mhux il-mexxej tal-Partit Laburista u kien ghadu mhux il-Prim Ministru. Fil-fatt ta' min jghid lil-Partit Laburista kien irnexxielu jikseb id-dritt tal-vot tan-nisa meta kien ghadu lanqas biss tela fil-Gvern. Fil-fatt fl-elezzjoni tan-1947 in-nisa ivvutaw ghal-ewwel darba u hargu ghal-ewwel daba kandidati nisa ghal-elezzjoni generali. Wahda minnhom kienet is-sinjurina Agatha Barbara.
Fil-fatt fil-ktieb tieghu 'Rajt Malta Tinbidel' il-mibki Dr. Herbert Ganado kien ilmenta dwar il-fatt li nr-rapprezentanti tal- forzi konservattivi fl-Assemblea Kostitwenti kienu dizorganizzati u bla dixxiplina ta' xejn bla ko-ordinament bejniethom u kollha kienu jfittxu l-kumdita u l-interessi persunali taghhom. Minn naha l-ohra Dr. Ganado rrimarka li r-rapprezentant li kienu jirrapprezentaw lil-Partit Laburista u l-Kazini tal-baned u dawk socjali kienu kollha maghqudin, uniti fl-imgieba taghhom u ko-ordinati fil-mod kif jiddiskutu u jivvutaw fl-Assemblea Legislattiva.
U wara din l-organizazzjoni kollha kien hemm il-mohh tal-Perit Duminku Mintoff. Jigifieri veru l-Perit kien ghadu mhux Prim Ministru imma kien diga kif isejhulu bl- Ingluiz ' a prime mover'.

Mintoff you`re be always the inspiration of those who really love the most feeble in society, and you loved and worked day and night for your country. RIP. People will know you best after your death. There were any medals behind your coffin, but the people of Malta whom you worked so hard to lessen the burdens of the workers and you gave the dignity to everybody- both rich and poor. While the church bells used to ring to suffocate your voice, this time the churches accepted you in their midst with the congregation shouting Mintoff, Mintoff. And Mintoff will remain in our hearths and souls.

Mr Trapani, you are where you are and what you are because of our history. It is good to look at the future but one should never forget the past and our predecessors. One learns from the past so that one will try to optimise the future. May all our politicians believe that Malta is first and foremost!
From your writing, you show that you do not care about the history of Malta, the sufferings the people went through, especially during the war, and where we came from. You should thank God you weren't born in those days to a poor family.
And who are the most of us? You and DCG ? I think you should have said the few of you. Don't generalise please!

@ A.Tonna... Indeed, I was born during those days to a relitively mediocre/poor family and because my family happened not to be Mintoffjana, I had to suffer consequences and discrimiation whilst the Mintoffjani (who for obvious reasons, years after are crying at the loss of this man), were enjoying a better living.
@ Michael Catania.... we have the choice and freedom to move on today and believe me.... i did move on like everyone else in this country except for those who (like you) would never admit it and are nostalgic for the mintoff era. And you calling me in a small cocoon mind?? ... you're the one who got stuck in the past and are considering an old time politician who has been out of the scene for more than 2 decades as your hero in this day and age.

Thanks to 'The Times' for giving us, their loyal readers, a continuous coverage of Mr Mintoff's state funeral.
Thanks to the Vatican and Archbishop Cremona for the church's appreciation of Dom Mintoff.
Thanks for Mintoff's family and the many thousands of mourners who did not fall for the provocation of the few.
Thanks to Mr Mintoff for giving back the dignity of being Maltese to the majority of our population.
Thanks to the President, Dr George Abela and Mrs Abela, Dr Lawrence and Kate Gonzi, Dr Eddie Fenech Adami, Dr Joseph and Michelle Muscat and both sides of the political divide for joining the many thousands of mourners.
I believe that Dr Anton Buttigieg wrote these beautiful lines just before passing away, 'God is good, bur He is mostly good when He comes to judge'. In other words, 'Alla Huwa twajjeb, izda Huwa l-aktar twajjeb meta jiggudika'.

And most of all people who will not let bygones be bygones. "Zmien ir-revizjonizmu! Zmien il-faccolizmu esagerat! " Quite right. But you know what? Revisionism has started by learning the true history of Mintoff's time, not some half-hearted attempted to re-write history to accomodate the political platform of a party. The true history of Mintoff's time is being re-written. It has already been discovered that Mintoff was no communist, as many purported him to be. And he always loved his country first. But still, there are other things that will be coming to light now that he's in his resting place. We'll just have to wait and see who was the real culprit behind all the misdemeanours that happened during his time. We have had already a taste due to Profs. Jaccarini's case. I'm sure there are more to come!

It is rather tiresome to keep hearing of Mintoff's politics of confrontation. Do some readers and writers have to be reminded that Malta's parliamentary system which it inherited from Westminster is an adversary one? That some people keep referring to Mintoff's politics of confrontation is indeed a backhanded compliment, reinforcing what is widely known ... namely that on the floor of parliament he reigned supreme. What was Michael Gonzi's role in the politics of confrontation, I wonder!
