I agree wholeheartedly with Amadeo Mifsud (August 17) on the wasteful ways of the Sicilian region.

For example, Comiso Airport was inaugurated by former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema in 2007.

Five years and €46 million later, a completed airport stands unused while endless meetings take place. Airport firemen are receiving their pay and thousands of euros have recently been spent to purchase art for the empty structure.

Ragusa is one of the most depressed areas in Italy yet there is never activity that can economically help the area. A 5,000-strong Facebook group called ‘Aeroporto di Comiso (Unico gruppo Attivo!!)’ has been relentlessly trying to see the doors of Comiso Airport open.
