I was under the impression that days of national mourning meant that every shop, etc. would be closed. Am I mistaken ? Allura what is the point of having days in mourning ?

Yes I agree. You are right. That is how it should be. All Flags must be half mast, and all shops, factories ect closed.

@ Mr Jonathan Zammit Lapira
"You injected in me the superiority complex when abroad and dealing with foreigners."
So typical. A comment from one of many with the Maltese mentality of 30 odd years ago, which, unfortunately, I have witnessed myself on many occassions while living outside my country. It is very important to remember that we are living in the year 2012.
Mr Lapira, did it ever occur to you that superiority complex is a result of inferiority? I do not suppose you do.

Pity you didn't live in Malta in the 1970's and 1980's as probably you would think and act otherwise

You made me proud to be maltese Mr. Mintoff. You injected in me the superiority complex when abroad and dealing with foreigners. You gave me free education, free health schemes, and plenty of foreign factories where to work in the 70's.
You gave my children the allowances and housing estates were to live. You gave my parents and me and all those who ritire from work, the pension. you gave the Maltese people DIGNITY.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

That's one side of the coin. What about violence ,hatred and division he brought ? . GHAJN GHAL GHAJN, SINNA GHAL SINNA, MIN MHUX HAGHNA KONTRA TAGHNA. Need I continue....... ?

I am almost envious of you, I had to 'get on my bike' to get a job. Pay contributions for my pension and other social services and pay taxes. But then I am an indipendent man and hand outs as if I lived in a missionary outpost would give me inferiority complex. I am proud to say that what I got I earned, and I would have done so whom ever runs the country.

@ Lawrence Zammit
It seems that you have not yet heard the praises of EFA and Dr. Gonzi on Mr. Mintoff. He respected the maltese but fought all the way with foreigners to get us the freedom every country would want. Face the realism and the truth of history.
