President lauds Mintoff
President George Abela has expressed his condolences to the Mintoff family and the Labour Party on the death of the former prime minister.
Dr Abela said that Mr Mintoff had made a major impact on local politics and Malta's foreign policy.
He had dedicated his life to the nation and was one of the main founders of the welfare state, raising the standard of living of all Maltese.
His ideal was always to see Malta develop economically and socially in an environment of peace, security and prosperity in the Mediterranean, the Office of the President quoted Dr Abela as saying.

if a statue is erected in front of castille, it should be for gorg borg olivier - the man who brought about malta's independence, not the one who wanted us to be integrated with britain!

Before you write you should know the facts! First of all there is already a statue of Dr.Borg Olivier in Castille Square! Secondly the Integration proposal was a mean to instigate full independence since he wanted the Maltese to have equal rights as the British. Once the British refused he resigned and started the road for Full Independence.

"His ideal was always to see Malta develop economically and socially in an environment of peace. Shame he failed miserabley. Economically the island was bankrupt... socially he devided the nation and the word peace wasn't a word in his vocablulary. But as a Christian, I forgive him and may God grant him peace.

Kennedy had said it is what you do for your Country not what the country does for you.
What did you do for Malta Mr. Tanti ???? Let us know maybe we submit your name for Republic nominations.

Th Labour Party should make an official request to the Malta Government to approve that a lifesize statue of Ex-Prime Minister Dom. Mintoff be placed in the entrance of Auberge de Castille to signify that Dom. Mintoff was the first Maltese to officially enter Castille as the Prime Minister.
The selection of the blueprint of the statue should be left to his two Daughters.
