EFA: Mintoff's positives outweighed the negatives
Eddie Fenech Adami said today that all considered, Dom Mintoff's positives outweighed his many negatives.
"He believed in his country and wanted to bring about change quickly, possibly too quickly at times," former President and Prime Minister Dr Fenech Adami told timesofmalta.com

Kulħadd jista jgħid li Mintoff kellu xi ħażin fih, imma żgur ĦADD ma jista jgħid li Mintoff kien IPOKRITA!
Imma fuq kollox min kien li lil Mintoff pproġettah u pinġieh bħala l-ħażin u stampa fl-imħuħ tan-nies speċjalment iż-żagħżagħ il-krudellta u t-tiranija ta' dan il-bniedem kbir u statistika? Illum qiegħed jintqal dak li kellu jintqal fuqu żmien ilu. Issa troppo tardi.
Hawn nixtieq nagħmel kumment ta' riflessjoni "l-uniku żewġ affarijiet li qatt ma jerġgħu jidħlu lura minfejn ħarġu huma l-bnedmin u l-kliem".
Mitt elf skuża ma tagħmilx tajjeb għal imqar gidba waħda!

"Eddie Fenech Adami said today that all considered, Dom Mintoff's positives outweighed his many negatives."
Correction: Dr EFA said that "while many will remember his negatives, on balance the positives outweighed the negatives".

First of all my condoliences to his family. I think he did the good and the bad, like all of us. But please do not try to compare 1980's Labour and 2012' s Nationalist. It is like comparing Paceville in the 80's and Today. Still Paceville but not the same in all aspects... almost 35 years passed so everything change.

@ Joseph Grech Attard....I am sorry but I never imagined I would read such a comment. Despite your well-known sympathies, I would have expected you to make an effort and desist for one day from writing such comments, which only fan the flames and don't do any good to any body, particularly your party. Dr Fenech Adami, like the statesman he is, buried the hatchet; we all know what he and his family went through when Mintoff was Prime Minister, yet he let bygones be bygones and in true gentlemanly fashion he refrained from spelling out Mintoff's negatives and reopening old wounds. Dr Fenech Adami's appeal for reconciliation and calm has been the hallmark of his leadership and continues to this very day; it definitely was not an easy job to keep the feelings of some of his followers in check both before and after 1987. But he sure did, and the whole of Malta was spared from the horrible acts of retribution; he did not allow any witch-hunting and concentrated on the onerous task of bringing Malta back on the road to full democracy and prosperity; an extremely difficult task which he carried out with dignity and humanity.

EFA said , Dom Mintoff's positives outweighed his many negatives. Why not say Dom Mintoff's many positives outweighed his negatives ? That's what EFA should have said if he really wanted to be a gentleman.
Mr. Grima that's exactly what EFA said.
Now be a gentleman and admit that you misunderstood.

To all commenting negatively on Dr Fenech Adami, please do realise that our former President and Prime Minister is trying to reconcile. Instead of everyone saying how much they hated Mintoff and Fenech Adami, can we just for once try to reconcile?
There is a level of respect we are duty bound to award to those who are grieving for Mintoff. Irrespective of what we feel, the only way to heal this deep division in Malta is to join in the grieving or keep to ourselves. Come on.
We are a single nation and our children deserve inheriting a united country rather than more dision and more hate and more personal vendettas

P Azzopardi.
Iva forsi illum il-poplu kuntent li jkollu Mars u toothpaste u jaqla fwiedu u dahru biex iħallas daru. U jekk tisma xi ħoss qawwi u tħares 'il fuq tara ajruplan ta' Air Malta u qed isuqu pilota malti għid : ara din waqqafa Mintoff. Il-ħasra hi li jekk tħares lejn il-baħar u tara vapur għaddej ma tistax tgħid li dan huwa ta' sea line maltija jew issewwa mill-ħaddiema maltin għax it-tnejn sabu ruħhom fl-abbiss tal-baħar.
Iż-żminijiet ta' Mintoff għandhom seħer anke fuq Dr. Gonzi għax kull nhar ta' Ħadd isemmilna din l-era ħafna u ħafna iktar milli jsemmi l-era ta' EFA. Is-snin 90 għaddew u spiċċaw, is-snin 70 u 80 għadhom ħajjin anke bis-saħħa tal-PN

I remember quite well during Dr Gorg Borg Olivier's funeral, when Mr Mintoff who was attending had to leave because a few people were strring up trouble.
So let us hope that during Mr Mintoff's funeral no one will do likewise because I am sure that members of the cabinet will attend.
Violence has no place in things like these let alone funerals!

Din tal-kaxxa ta' Malta hija hrafa kbira. Ma kienet tezisti l-ebda kaxxa ta' Malta, jekk b'dan qed tfisser xi kontijiet il-bank jew xi 'sovereign wealth fund'. Il-gvernijiet Laburisti tas-snin sebghin u tmenin veru ma hallewx dejn sinifikanti, imma ma hallewx xi ammont ta' flus f'xi kont il-bank lanqas. Ovvjament kien hemm l-assi tal-gvern bhall-art u xi imprizi pubblici li hafna minnhom kienu jaghmlu t-telf, u l-banek li kienu nhatfu minghand is-sidien originali taghom, imma xejn izjed minn hekk.
