Roadworks in Mellieħa were at a temporary standstill last week as the contractor was on the annual Santa Marija shut down.

Over the past months, the roadworks have been the cause of frustration for the many commuters who were stuck in traffic for more than an hour per day. A Transport Malta spokesman confirmed that the contractor was on shut down for the whole of last week and that work would resume today.

He said the shut down was planned and included in the contract. The spokesman confirmed that the roadworks were on schedule and should be concluded by the first quarter of next year. Transport Minister Austin Gatt was unavailable for comment.
