Fixing up kids’ futures
Money is trickling in to help fund repairs in a childrens’ home
An appeal for money to urgently fix structurally damaged ceilings at a home for disadvantaged children in Żabbar is bearing fruit.
The nuns running Dar Sagra Familja had said they were in urgent need of €6,000 to fund vital repairs and turned to The Times’ readers for help. Their appeal was reported in Thursday’s issue.
The nuns who care for the home’s 11 children yesterday publicly thanked the organisations and individuals who had dipped into their pockets to help out.
“We’re delighted with the support so far. It’s been a godsend. With a bit of luck we’ll collect the €6,000 needed for urgent repairs.
“That will set our mind at ease and allow us to focus on fundraising for repairs needed at the children’s summer home in Birżebbuġa,” Sr Bernardette Galea said.
Bank of Valletta had immediately pledged to help the home, as part of a community relations project it runs.
The management at Volksbank was also quick to react, saying it had sent a cheque to Dar Sagra Familja.
“When somebody’s life is in danger, there is no time for slow decisions. These children need help immediately,” Volksbank managing director Herbert Skok said.
Sr Bernardette said she had also received phone calls from a couple of individuals eager to help out. The home had now set up a bank account for donations, she explained.
Those wishing to help Dar Sagra Familja can make a donation to BOV account No. 15112868028, send a cheque to Dar Sagra Familja, 25, Mediatrics Place, Żabbar ZBR 1304 or contact Sr Bernardette directly by calling 2165 1310.
