The second part of the Archaeotur architectural seminar will be held between September 5 and 7 at St Angelo’s hall of the Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa.
Archaeotur, a cultural project co-financed under the Italy-Malta Programme Cohesion Policy 2007-2013, aims to conserve, interpret and market some of the most significant archaeological sites, such as hypogeums and catacombs, across the Maltese and Italian borders.
The project focuses on the following sites: Ta’ Bistra (Mosta),St Augustine (Rabat), Trabacche, Cava Celone, Cisternazzi and Donnafugata (Ragusa), and Mezzagnone, Pirrera and Mirio (Santa Croce Camarina).
Earlier this year, a three-day seminar was organised in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily, with Maltese and Sicilian speakers giving detailed descriptions of some of the archaeological sites and findings discovered within.
The speakers also shared information and ideas about what has been done so far and what work still needs to be carried out to preserve these sites and present them professionally.
A number of university students from Malta and Sicily were invited to take part and were also taken to visit some of the archaeological sites being discussed.
The coming seminars will again reunite Maltese and Sicilian experts and participants to evaluate the work that has been done so far and also to visit some of the Maltese sites that are being studied. Participation is free, but reservations are recommended.
