Irresponsible people are ruining breathtaking spots all over the island by leaving their rubbish lying around.

Reader Charles Azzopardi took the above photos of beautiful Mtahleb, marred only by the rubbish such irresponsible people left around.

After sunset the place is taken over by large rats, because of this rubbish, he said.

Wardens? what are these, do you mean the powerless scared individuals that stand around doing very little all day, too scared of reprisals to book anyone, unsuported by government and blamed for all evil on this tiny island.
The only ones to blame for the mess of this once beautiful island are the gutless, over indulgent government and councils for the last 25 years.

Malta should offer the illegal immigrants the chance to earn some cash by cleaning up this rubbish.

It seems reasonable to pay for their work at a reduced rate since they don't pay taxes but still get all the benefits, and food for free etc.
I am sure my suggestion would be against the wishes of certain groups such as the do gooders, unions etc., but would some immigrants go for it?

Il-huta minn rasha tinten. If the authorities choose to do nothing about this issue, then how in the world do you expect to control it? Without proper enforcement nothing will ever change. Do you really think that a few local clean ups by residents can even keep up with the rubbish churned out by residents? The country is full of rubbish, wherever you go! As soon as tourists land, rubbish can even be seen in the area surrounding the runway!

The reason why they say they are cllean inside their homes is because nobody sees the inside of their homes. How can anybody be clean inside and dirty/irresponsible outside? We just have to accept that we are lumbered with these type of people.

Go out into the ocean and you will find huge islands many square miles in size, consisting of floating plastic rejects...... It's not just us Maltese, but it's all humanity that's polluting the earth.

CHRIS, IN MALTA, IF YOU WASH YOUR CAR ON THE STREET YOU ARE FINED BECAUSE THEY SAY YOU ARE LITTERING THE STREET, BUT, IF YOU LEAVE YOUR RUBBISH OVERNIGHT IN THE STREET OR PUT IT OUT WITH NO BLACK BAG AND WATER OOZING OUT FROM FRUIT AND VEG - THAT IS NOT LITTERING.

This happens all over the world. I live in Sydney the difference is how we feel about breaking the law from one country to an other. We over here, most of the time, it is more embarrassing if someone is watching someone breaking the law. This is something that one has to live overseas to experience the difference. If I had thrown out a piece of paper from my car window the penalty would be something like $300 if caught but, I will think it twice because I am seen by other motorist.

Dust Bins??? even if you left skips these people wouldnt know what are they there for..

what is needed no not fines , but immediate confiscation of vehicle and put to clean up areas which need cleaning for 3 days ( community service with the public cleaning division) without pay,

areas which have a history of attracting rubbish dumping should have a hidden CCTV installed

And I believe you. But you see, the country at the moment is gripped by a frenzy of national sabotage!

I agree 100% with what you are saying. The truth hurts.

How is the truth hurting, Mr Calleja? I am trying to understand, but cannot.
One point Mr Ferriggi says with which I agree 100%: some people are hurting this country on purpose!
