19 refugees resettled in Switzerland
A group of 19 North African refugees who were in Malta were resettled in Switzerland last April.
The refugees' presence in Switzerland was only made public this morning by Justice Minister Simonetta Sommeruga when speaking on a radio programme
Although not part of the European Union, Switzerland agreed to take a share of the refugees in Malta in solidarity with the country.

The UK Minister for Europe on a recent visit to Malta made it clear that the UK won't be taking any refugees or rather I say illegal immigrants from Malta. Do we blame the UK? NO is the answer!! As we said all along this burden sharing is a farce and will only encourage would be illegal immigrants to come over. Stop this resettling of illegal immigrants once and for all. They should be settled in Africa and not in Europe. Somalis in the UK are returning to Mogadishu because Somalia needs them to rebuild the country. If all the Somalis leave Malta then half of the problem is already solved. But GonziPN is too weak and bows in to pressure from the EU and the UNHCR plus the NGO's. Gonzi should not let the UNHCR dictates who to let in and who to give international prortection or asylum. Can we follow Greece's recent action against illegal immigrants?? This was for all to read on the BBC a couple of weeks ago.

Nobody knows how many illegal immigrants there are in the U.K. but it is estimated it could be up to half a million.
On top of this, of course, there is a stream of legal immigrants, and quite rightly why should the latter suffer through cuts in immigration because of the illegals?

19 immigrants out of the several thousand present on the island will hardly make any difference. On the contrary, it may actually serve as an additional incentive for more immigrants to come here in the first place.

Switzerland is not in the EU and agreed to take a share in solidarity with Malta.
The EU countries are supposed to show solidarity with Malta but kept sitting on their back side leaving us with the burden, but expected us to give our share to bail out Greece.

And the illegal immigration problem is solved. I come from a pure nationalist family but I will be voting Labour on this issue. I want to see labour's action. At least the PL were the only party to raise our voice.

The last few days the PL, thru Michael Falzon, issued a statement regarding the immigration problem. Can you remind me what solutions are the PL proposing, cause I cannot recall even one of them.

Did the PL state what it'll do if elected to resolve the problem? Do you know why you're voting for the PL? And what if the PL tackles (not resolve, because it's impossible to resolve it) and messes up everything else. Are you seriously voting for the PL just on 1 issue (which isn't clear either)?

Had not Joseph Muscat already spelt it out for you.
If immigrants prefer to go to Italy instead of disembarking in Malta, then they should be allowed to proceed on their journey.
They should not be made to suffer the trauma of 18 months detention, with after completion, no possibility of leaving the island in search of a better future.

@ A Cuschieri: Like Mauro Debattista, I too will be voting Labour for the first time ever, and primarily because of this issue (the broken income tax promise is a secondary reason). This particular question dwarfs all others in importance, in my opinion. What use is anything else, if we can no longer live in security in our own country? I'd rather have a lower income and not lose my country, if that's the choice I have, and it's not even clear that it is, given that the current government's performance in the economic sphere is hardly spectacular and should be fairly easy to emulate.

@ Cuschieri,
In all fairness, can the PL do any worst than what the PN has done regarding the immigration problem.
