It sounds very unfortunate that in its statement on IVF, the Cana Movement opted for fear tactics rather than to offer a sound and reasonable contribution to enlighten the debate.

Now that the sector is to be regulated after so many years of practice, the Cana Movement should have availed itself of its experience to help ensure the best law possible for the country. I think the Cana Movement people now owes it to the country and to the Church to demonstrate how and why IVF opens the way to abortion. Otherwise, we have all reasons to consider their statement as a mere repetition of clichés, among them that children are a ‘gift’, implying that some deserve it while others do not.
