Convicts cook for tourists on Italian island

The Italian island of Pianosa is a holiday hotspot where visitors receive an unusual welcome.

Prisoners from the jail on nearby Elba island run a hotel and restaurant on Pianosa, as a way to help their rehabilitation back into society.

Why not? Most of them would be jailed for minor crimes or crimes of passion. These prisoners will still become citizens again when they are released.

I wouldn't mind. I'm not naive to treat prisoners lightly, but not all of them are murderers and thieves
