One of the reasons the walls at Għar Lapsi beach are collapsing is because a restaurant was built so close to the edge. How could Mepa allow such a building to be erected so dangerously close to the edge?
The area where there were no boulders on the cement have been fenced off; most of them came down close to the water.
The minister responsible should see to it that the walls in that area are straight and a wall should be built for safety, but the restaurant should be demolished first. A big cement patch and a pavement should be built in that area, like Wied iż-Żurrieq.
People prefer to swim there because it is dangerous to walk on the other side, near the caves, because of the slippery green seaweed and protruding rocks.
I hope it will not take five years or more to have such a dangerous building demolished and make the area safe for swimming.
