A number of people were slightly injured last night when an argument between two small groups of youths  developed into a free for all in Racecourse Street, Victoria, Gozo outside the Aurora band club.

The incident happened shortly after midnight.

People on the scene said an argument appeared to have developed inside the club during a disco held to mark the feast of Sta Marija.

In a flash the commotion grew into a free for all, with several people throwing bottles and cups and then tables and chairs outside the building.

People fled from the scene, a number of them with blood-stained clothes. A boy was seen to have a head injury.

A man who was on the scene said there was 'absolute chaos in the street. He complained  about the absence of the police even though the police station is a few metres up the road.

The police eventually intervened and order was restored.

A number of people were treated in hospital for slight injuries.

The police are expected to take court action against both groups involved.
