A Colombian man who arrived in Malta carrying 52 capsules containing half a kilogram of cocaine in his underpants yesterday admitted to conspiring to traffic in drugs.

Alexander Restrepo Diaz, 36, from Barcelona, arrived on Tuesday after flying in from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Mr Diaz was intercepted by Customs Officers, who found the drugs hidden in his underwear.

During his arraignment yesterday, Mr Diaz admitted to conspiring to smuggle drugs into Malta, importing the drug and being in possession of the drug in circumstances which denote it was not for his exclusive use.

Police Inspector Johann Fenech prosecuted.
