More berthing spaces for yachts
The additional temporary berths at Ta' Xbiex.
Transport Malta has provided additional temporary yacht berths at Ta' Xbiex and Kalkara Creek to cater for ever-growing demand.
It said that its emphasis is to privatize yacht marinas and to identify new areas for the development of yacht marinas by the private sector.
It also awarded contracts for the management of the temporary yacht marinas/organised mooring areas (Ta Xbiex, Kalkara, Sliema).
Malta currently offers has permanent marinas at Msida, Ta' Xbiex, Gozo, Portomaso, Manoel Island and the Grand Harbour catering for yachts from 16 metres to 100 metres in length. The number of berthing spaces has increased from 1,511 in 2009 to 1,904 now.
Plans for a new yacht marina at Sa Maison have been submitted to MEPA together with an Environmental Impact Statement. The proposed marina will provide 310 new berths.

Everything belonging to the people is being privatized.
I hope that the PL will re-nationalize everything and give them back to the people.

Sorry Tony but unfortunately nothing really belongs to the people, t belongs to the government which, while it is meant to represent the people, it is an entity of its own. If the PL were nationalize what has been privatized, unless it's in the case of expired contracts, it would be infringing on new "owners" rights with the result of legal disputes and so on...
If the people want to own anything they need to form organizations, NGOs or cooperatives and purchase land from the Government or something of that sort.

Claude Marsh people need not buy anything that they already own collectively.
Everything except that which is private property is PUBLIC property.
Re new owners rights, nationalization has been carried all over the world, let alone re-natiobnalization.

ps Claude, the government is to manage the public property in the interests of the public not give it to private entities to fill their pockets.

Additional temporary berths at Ta' Xbiex. Good. Excellent.
But the boat owners come to the site by car, and where do you park your car? In fact the car spaces have been reduced drastically due to some works on the Ta' Xbiex marina and nobody knows if we will have them back. The parking situation which was already quite difficult has become drastic.
Same as in the Gozo marina. Works there are moving at a snail's pace with major works which would normally need dozens of workers to finish up within a reasonable time. You go day any time of the week and be lucky to find half a dozen on the job. To get to the berths you stop at the gate and walk a few hundred meters in 3 inches of dust. And to park the car? Well that's another three or four hundred meters further away, if you are lucky to find any. On a weekend? Forget it.
So T.M. please if there are any plans for a marina in Pieta, think first. Where are the boat owners going to park their cars. The small car park which there is presently is already full let alone when the influx of the boat owners comes.

We've been hearing this for decades. By definition temporary berths do not provide a permanent solution. What happened to the once-proposed xemxija marina?
