The House of Representatives had produced a video charting the history of Parliament since it was set up with the granting of self-government in 1921.

The research was carried out by history professor Henry Frendo.

The DVD, launched by Speaker Michael Frendo, comes in the wake of a recent publication about the institution. It too will be distributed to public libraries and schools.

Dr Frendo said the publication and the DVD would enable teachers to better teach Malta's recent history, which was interwoven with that of Parliament.

The DVD includes comments from all living Speakers. Prof Frendo noted that one of the points they made was how Parliament, as an institution, needed to be autonomous of the government.

The DVD is available from the Office of the Clerk of the House.

Speaker Frendo said a permanent exhibition on the history of Parliament was also being planned.
