Mind the cap

Opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles (pictured) is defying electoral authorities over his use of a baseball cap emblazoned with the colours of Venezuela’s flag.

National Electoral Council officials have said they believe Mr Capriles’ frequent use of the yellow, blue and red cap while campaigning breaks rules banning the use of the flag’s colours in electoral propaganda. But Mr Capriles’ response has been to put the cap right back on again.

He donned the hat during a campaign rally and dismissed the calls by the electoral council. “Here they kill more than 40 Venezuelans every day and the issue for the government is the cap I wear,” he said in one message on Twitter.

Clint for Mitt

Clint Eastwood (pictured) has made Mitt Romney’s day – the veteran director and actor says he is endorsing the Republican presidential candidate.

Eastwood said he was backing Mr Romney because “I think the country needs a boost”.

Dirty Harry star Eastwood was among Romney supporters attending a fund-raiser for the candidate in Sun Valley, Idaho. “Now more than ever do we need Governor Romney. I’m going to be voting for him,” Eastwood said. “He just made my day,” Mr Romney said. “What a guy.” (PA)
