• Our Lady of the Lilies Band Club of Mqabba is holding its mid-year general meeting next Sunday at 10 a.m. at its newly built club in the town’s main square. The meeting will consist of financial and administrative reports by the so­ciety’s sections, a discussion on this year’s feast, projects the society is carrying out and forthcoming activities. • To celebrate the feast of St Cajetan in Ħamrun next Sunday the Sliema Band will play marches along High Road from Fra Diegu Square to the parish church where it will perform a musical programme conducted by its bandmaster Mro Ronnie Debattista. The programme will include musical compositions by Pascal Marquina, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Vincenzo Di Chiara, Flavio Bar, Robert Stolz, Luigi Denza, Ernest Gold and Michael Kamen. The band will accompany the statue of St Cajetan back into the church with the popular hymns of Willie Attard, Joe Abela Scolaro and Anton Muscat Azzopardi. The programme will be concluded with the Inno Sliema by Mro Cardenio Botti.

• The Mission Fund is organising a barbecue on August 18 at the rooftop pool area, Park Hotel, Sliema, at 7.30 p.m. Free parking at the Tower Supermarket, High Street, Sliema. All proceeds go to Maltese missionaries in Third World countries. Prices are €18 for adults and €9 for children under 12. • The Learning Ability Not Disability Group will hold a barbecue on August 18 at 8 p.m. at the Coastline Hotel, Salina Bay. Anyone wishing to donate hampers or gifts for a lottery to be drawn during the event are asked to indicate this when booking. Barbecue tickets cost €20 each. • The junior club of Our Lady of the Lilies Band Club is organising an activity for children from Mqabba and their friends on August 21. An afternoon by the pool will be held at It-Torri in Qrendi, and will include various activities and games for children.
