Italian prosecutors on Friday requested a ban of three years and six months for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci for allegedly fixing a match in a high-profile scandal.

The 25-year-old Bonucci, a member of Italy’s national football team which lost in the Euro 2012 final, was hauled before a disciplinary tribunal over a match in 2010 when he was playing for Bari.

His Juventus team-mate Simone Pepe also received a one-year ban request from football federation prosecutor Stefano Palazzi for failing to disclose information about the alleged incident, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Bonucci, who in April prolonged his contract at Juventus until 2017, began his professional career at Inter before moving on to Treviso, Pisa and then Bari, after which he signed up to Juventus in 2010.

Prosecutors had already requested a one-year and three-month ban for Juventus coach Antonio Conte and his deputy Angelo Alessio last week.

Conte and Alessio are accused of failing to disclose their alleged knowledge of two fixed matches when both men worked at Siena football club.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli issued a sharp reaction earlier this week saying that Italy’s football federation was “operating outside all logic”.

The federation earlier rejected a plea bargain offer by Conte.

The disciplinary tribunal is investigating 13 football clubs in total in a scandal over match fixing and illegal betting. The investigation comes six years after a similar scandal deprived Juventus of two titles.
