@ Mario Tabone:
You are wrong about Mintoff being against the British because he was the one who asked for 'INTEGRATION' so as us Maltese be treated on same levels as them BUT they didn't accept us. Thats why later Independence was asked from them Mr.Tabone.

What did Ghaddafi do to Mintoff when Mintoff wanted to drill for oil offshore?

@ P.Bonnici:
As far as I know Mr.Bonnici although Mr.Gaddafi sent his gunboats to stop us from continuing exploring for oil, Mintoff didn't put his arms down as he took Libya to the European Courts with regards who owes that part of rock. One wonders how over after more than 25 years PN in government nothing has developed yet.

Araw jekk issibhux xi tifel/a minn taghhom jekk kellhomx il-bzonn jghamlu dan ? Nghidlek li zgur li mhux se' issibu hlif lil dawk li baghathom fuq xi kors, ghax l-ohrajn kollha kienu jsibulhom xi post. Ara lili u hafna ohrajn le, ghax kellna nhallu lil genituri u hutna warajna u nitilqu. Taf x'misshom jghidu tal- PN li fi zmien Mintoff kien hemm min beda jigi lura minn barra mhux bhall zmienhom. @Martin.-----Budgets with "tonn taz-zejt.?" Maybe yes ,that is overdoing it a bit,but the budgets were also about how much Air Malta was contributing to the country, and Mid-Med, and Sea Malta, and BOV, and...... but we run out of space whenever we discuss what this great man has achieved. Just remember that when Mintoff took over the running of the country there was no minimum wage and also no children's allowance scheme. So as many wages were 5pounds a week or less, the standard of living was very low. Mintoff eradicated this with hard and serious work, and with great negotiating skills, in sharp contrast with today's leaders, when poverty is again rearing its ugly head (and it's not the PL only which is saying so).

Ara issa ghandna Prim Ministru minghajr team li qed jipprova jaqbad ma kull tibna.Pajiz fejn kellu 'Surplus' fil-kaxxa ta' Malta gibtuh midjun bil-kbir fejn qed nieklu milli mghandnhiex u d-dejn dejjem jikber. agree 100%,buthistory is made out of volumes no a few pages. It also makes a difference where you get the information from. We the grey haired ones live it from the thirties, so no one can twist history fo us. That is the differnce, you have to read others biased write ups.

Franco Farrugia

Aug 5th 2012, 06:17

But Mintoff was certainly in power in the 70s and 80s when The Times was burnt to the ground. Or do you choose to forget that? And does this newspaper remember?

Jesmond Chetcuti

Aug 5th 2012, 08:14

Franco, yes the 70 and the 80 were the times were, you could own your propert without being in debt for your whole life, times were pensioneers were respected and didnt need to beg after long years of work, years were the foundations of the social services were layed (social services that are going to end up in history in some years time), the list is very long, but some of you choose to highlight the low part of Doms life. Everywhere and everytime to achieve history a strong person needs to rock the boat, and when it happens some people are going to fall in the water , bu t for the benefit of thousands....
