Three stole €500,000 of antique jewellery

Two men were jailed for a total of six years and a third received a suspended jail term for stealing €500,000 worth of antique jewellery and diamonds from a shop in Valletta last year.

Glen Debattista, 52, from Sta Venera, was jailed for three years and his 21-year-old son, Ryan, was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and slapped with a fine of €500.

A third man, Carmel Hartley, 40, was sent to prison for three years.

The items were stolen between August 6 and 8 last year from Pjazza Antiques Limited in Valletta. The men also tried to steal cash from an HSBC ATM at Wembley Stores in Republic Street

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi handed down judgment after taking into consideration their admission.
