Aaron Mifsud (Pembroke Athleta) and Carmen Hili (St Patrick’s) retained their positions at the top of their respective classifications following the second and penultimate race of the 2012 Birkirkara St Joseph 5K Road Running Series, held recently on the Mtarfa By-Pass.

Mifsud is enjoying a 35-second lead while Hili has the series virtually in her pockets with an 85-second advantage over her nearest rival.

Mifsud was unchallenged in this second race, during which he went on to further improve his winning time over this route. His 16:04 was five seconds faster than the time he registered in the first race.

BSJ’s Steve Chetcuti improved his third placing in the first race, by finishing second in 16:16, two seconds faster than Simon Spiteri, of St Patrick’s.

In the classification, Spiteri is leading third-placed Chetcuti by just one second. The runner-up spot is thus wide open going into the final race on August 21.

Hili won the race in 18:57, and with her nearest rival, Francesca Arrigo (Ladies Running Club), 51 seconds behind, the former should have no problems to win the series.

Johanna Calleja (Birkirkara St Joseph) was third in 20:08.

The BSJ 5K Road Running Series is organised under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletic Association and sponsored by The Cyclist.
