Chetcuti sets national record

Maltese swimmer Andrew Chetcuti set a new national record in the 100 metres freestyle heats at the London Olympic Games on Tuesday.

Starting in lane five of the third heat, Chetcuti completed the distance in 51.67 seconds - 0.18 seconds faster than his own national best he set earlier this year.

Chetcuti finished the race third behind Albania’s Sidni Hoxha (51.11) and Guam’s Kevin Soto (51.44).

Despite the good result, the Maltese swimmer failed to qualify for the semifinals.

Yes, but there is no need of such hype! Winning the national Maltese record is like saying "you've set a university sports record"!

You should be proud that a Maltese person has achieved a national record and placed 3rd when participating in such top quality competitions........ I can't believe that you found something to complain about in such a positive article! Unbelievable!!

Do you even know how to swim Mr. Fenech?
Who cares? We as a nation should be proud that we have someone there who has dedicated a good part of his life to producing that result. Compare the effort you made to get to the Olympics, then you could comment accordingly.
Just because he is nowhere near the top finalists does not mean we should not applaud him.

It's unbelievable that we have people like you in Malta. Considering that Malta's population is only 400,000 compared to the millions other countries have, Chetcuti's success is a feat in itself.

Luckily people like you are countable and the rest are proud of Chetcuti's achievement.

I hope you was joking and that you did not mean what you said.
