Government cannot go on, timesofmalta.com readers say
Sixty per cent of respondents to a timesofmalta.com online poll believe that the government cannot continue its legislative programme in the current political situation.
There were 15,913 replies to the question: “Are you confident that the government can continue its legislative programme?” 35 per cent said yes, 60 per cent no and four per cent said they did not know.
A new poll is now online.
The question is: “Do you think William Chetcuti will win a medal at the Olympic Games?”

One person may vote more than once, actually, several times so this poll is deemed null. If you want to make it credible, who ever signs in to the site can only vote once...!!!

The Hon. Prime Minister must be thinking ; who cares about your public opinion. I have got other plans. You do not know ALL the facts behind the scenes Even though he is a coalition government, even though he has lost his parliamentary majoritys, even though the polls may be showing that the PN has lost the electoral majority of 1,500 votes with which he won the last election, even though The Times Editorials have called for a General Election, the Hon Prime Minister sees fit to plod on, with manoeuvres like taking a long summer holiday all aimed at staying in power, no matter what. I wonder what reason the Hon. Prime Minister may have for this public defiance ?

In theory GonziPN can continue to govern until the end of the legislature. However I feel that in reality he is plodding along because the general consensus is for Gonzi to dissolve Parliament. Although different scenario, the MLP in 1981 in theory had the right to govern but in reality not because it did not obtain the majority of the electorate. However neither the MLP in 1981 nor GonziPN in 2012 are breaking the law or going against the constitution. So my answer to the question on the above article will be that yes the GonziPN can continue to govern.

@ J.C. Borg:
No Mr. Borg, not the blogs have been hijacked by the PL boys, BUT our Prim Minister Dr.Gonzi has no ears to hear and no eyes to see. He became insensitive to the peoples' cries as have been told many times by the PN voters themselves. This is going to give a lesson to the PN party as back benchers in parliament.

The major question for election day should be : WHO DO YOU TRUST TO LEAD YOUR COUNTRY IN THE UPCOMING ECONOMY STATE?! Voting starts now.

@ Ian Mamo:
For sure we are not going to trust Dr.Gonzi when Malta' financial siuation was brought to its state by himself. Dr.Tonio Fenech many times has told us that the Debt and Deficit are going to be decreased but it happens the other way round 'INCREASED' year -in, year -out. This also was said to us by Dr.Gonzi and Tonio Fenech. Finanzi fis - Sod, but it doesn't proof so. Dr.Gonzi is selling and already sold our milking cows to make the Debt seen less on the books, but for gods sake this is a one - off profit ( if you can call it so).Now the government is so tight in cash flow that he is borrowing from the people themselves

I would trust a government that after sixteen years in government did not leave any deficit or national debt only god knows how. But malta's financial situation excellent with minds at rest. We didn't have a variety of chocolate but financially we were strong.

Right now I would vote for a Government run by and including JPO and FD. We need a new force and a new Government. No more YES men and women and business as usual. This is no way to run a country. We need a government that won't be bought and won't sell out to the best bidder.

There question should have been
''Are you confident that the government can continue its legislative programme with Franco Debono's show stopping attitude, JPO's promise to support till the end , and Jesmond mugliette's indecisions?''
The answer would have been NO...not confident.........but as things are the government should stick to it's programme till the end because there is a far worse issue here.
It's MLP and Dr.Muscat. Thay are still without a programme to govern the nation...not even on IVF they are still studying . Maybe by 6 June next year thier homework and assignments will be done reviewed and approved by an election.

What is it that drives men to ignore other people's hardships, what causes them to be so insensitive to the plight of the others?
Pride is one of the seven mortal sins, it is the worst sin because it was pride that ruined the human race, yet some people who should know better, profess holier-tha-thou attitudes and present themselves as champions of others turn out to be so rotten.
I wonder if they ever get sleepless nights or has their conceit so hardened their conscience that they only refer to it when it suits their hypocracy.

But the Government has to go on....
I mean, look at all the half-baked projects currently open.
Also...they still have to seal a number of deals, like the giving of the White Rocks and Selmun palace to some...err...'reputable' investor...
If PL get in before then, it would just be another 'reputable' investor, as there is not much to destinguish the two parties. Opportunism is the common denominator.

Whatever GonziPN does while he still has the power of incumbency, will eventually result in more hardship after the election by who ever wins. PN or PL after the election will have to face the financial issues that are and will still accumulate until the election time, and has to react to the situation. If GonziPN wins, then Gonzi would be licking his wounds. If the PL wins, Joseph would be facing a high wall. But all in all, it's only the honest citizens who will have to make good for the money squandered till the end of this legislature.
My worries are that we could end up facing similarity to, if not the Greeks' and Spanish situations, but surely the same as the Italians', French and Cypriots'!

Gonzi will continue up to the last day of the year. He will dissolve parliament by December, and continue for three months shouting that he retarded early elections to top up the 30,000 jobs and now he has made history re-written that he is the grandmaster of illusions and lies.

I do not think it is a case of setting a good example by staying on in the circumstances. Come next vote and sparks will fly again. Is this good for the country? Even for the sake of the credentials of the PN the strategy needs rethinking soon.
