King’s Own Band Club publication

Italian unification, European politics

The King’s Own Philharmonic Society of Valletta recently launched the 47th edition of its publication Mill-Każin, edited by Michael Zammit.

The book takes readers on a vast review of various articles by members of the club related to past and present activities.

Also of note are historic analyses related to the club and St Dominic parish church in Valletta, including ‘Mill-arkivji ta’ moħħi’ by Fr Edmund Teuma, OFM Conv. and ‘Il-Patrijiet Dumnikani li għallmuni fil-Liċeo bejn l-1947 u l-1951’ by Richard Matrenza.

The 100-page publication is illustrated with antique pictures related to the club, the church of St Dominic church and the Dominican Friars.

The publication also features the 100th anniversary since the band earned the title of ‘Excellence’ in Algiers in 1912. The book also contains the programme of the feast of St Dominic which is being celebrated in Valletta today.
