A man was conditionally discharged for three years yesterday after pleading guilty to stealing 20 rabbits and some tools from a farm in Gudja.

Carmelo Dalli, 43, from Cospicua pleaded guilty to stealing the animals to sell them.

He also admitted relapsing and committing the crime during the operative period of a one-year conditional discharge.

Defence lawyer Marion Camilleri asked the court to be lenient with her client since the booty was worth little money.

Moreover, during the arraignment, Mr Dalli gave the police €300 to pass on to the victim as compensation for what he stole.

Magistrate Carol Peralta noted that the accused had cooperated with the police and admitted to the charges at once.

He therefore released him on condition he does not commit another crime within three years.
