Top rankings for Air Malta

Air Malta has recently achieved top rankings in surveys carried among international air travellers.

The research was conducted by Skytrax for their World Airline Awards and by eDreams, a leading travel organisation in Europe.

Air Malta has achieved 6th place in the ‘Best Regional Airlines in Europe’ category at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2012. These awards are the global benchmark of airline excellence and the primary benchmarking tool for passenger satisfaction levels of airlines throughout the world.

Their survey format is based on analysis of business and leisure travellers, across all cabin travel types.

Air travellers were contacted by telephone, questionnaires and online and were asked about their experiences with airlines on the ground and in the air during a 10-month period.

The survey measured passenger satisfaction across more than 38 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service, including check-in, boarding, onboard seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food, beverages, in-flight entertainment and staff service.

The research covered over 200 airlines, from the largest international airlines to smaller domestic carriers.

Air Malta has also ranked in 15th place in the, ‘Periodic Table of Airlines’ just issued by eDreams.

The portal offers over 60,000 flight routes from more than 100 airlines, and over 150,000 hotels in 30,000 destinations around the world, as well as vacation packages and car rentals.

eDreams.com complied this ranking through customer reviews and flight prices from the millions of bookings they receive.

Commenting on these achievements Air Malta chief executive Peter Davies said: “We are delighted to have achieved such placings in independent research amongst travellers.

“Our commitment to provide the best experience for our customers is starting to bear fruit. We intend to deliver a 100 per cent Maltese product on our flights and we are working hard towards that aim. We still have a lot to do, however, such important results give us confidence that we are on the right track.”

You amaze me Mr Meilak, don't tell me you don't carry a pen with you when you travel. Maybe the steward had lent his pen to some other passenger and did not get it back. You cannot really judge an airline because the steward did not lend you a pen now can you. I usually judge an airline by the service rendered, by the cleanliness, by how safe you feel throughout the journey, the food provided etc etc.

But was 'pen on demand' on the questionnaire?

Even so, we have to congratulate Air Malta for their accomplishments. Surveyors have their own way of doing things and they know when and where to ask the questions. Too bad they did not compare the fares Air Malta charges from Malta to Heathrow, London, or for that matter any other fare on any other carrier departing out of Malta.

And what about the Brussels flight? Paying a high fare just for the nuts. One doubts whether Brussels, London Heathrow, Manchester, and other UK airports, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Moscow, Turkey, Israel are regional countries. Air Malta came the sixth place just for operating to Rome, Tunis, Libya, Benghazi and Catania. These are what are called regional airlines. Usually regional airlines operate internal flights or operating flights of not more than 1 and a half hours. These are short haul flights where the only profitable routes are those of Libya and Benghazi since no other airline operates other than Air Malta.

Any survey can only be given credence or any degree of credibility if the actual numbe rof respondents to such is made clearly known. Why do vitrually all surveys hide behind the disclosing of this vital figure and provie only oercentages-buit percenages of what figure?
