A potential UK wine importer visited the Delicata winery and was given an extensive tour of the facilities earlier this week.
Nigel Savage, a representative of the British wine importer located between London and Bristol, enjoyed a comprehensive tasting of an assortment of Delicata’s DOK and IGT quality wines.
Mr Savage, whose visit came about a week before the 2012 grapes are picked and taken to the winery, was briefed about the winery’s latest technology, which was installed recently.
This includes the state-of-the-art Ganimede red wine fermenters, which will be in operation for the first time this year.
During the tasting, held in the winemaker’s barrel maturation vaulted cellars, Mr Savage showed a particular liking for the white and rosé wines that include Malta’s two unique indigenous grape varieties, Ġellewża and Girgentina.
Other wines that gained Mr Savage’s interest were made from those locally grown international grape varieties that are lesser known than their noble cousins Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Syrah etc.
These include the Medina Sangiovese, Grand Vin de Hauteville Viognier, Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato Liqueur wine and the unique Medina Zibibbo Vermentino blend.
