Work on fish market to start soon
Video: Mark Zammit Cordina
Works on the development of a new €3 million fish market that will meet European standards will start in the coming weeks.
Speaking during a visit to the site this afternoon, Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino said the work will divided into four phases.
These are the demolishing of the building that used to accommodate the Marsa reverse osmosis plant which has now been decommissioned and dismantled; the building of a new retaining wall behind the site and the slaughterhouse; the building of the fish market proper; and the building of a storey above the fishmarket to be used for the processing of fish.
The facility will also include space for the processing of unsold fish giving consumers a bigger choice of fresh products.
The facility, work on which will be completed in a year-and-a-half, will include parking.

Without wanting to sound negative.
Wouldn't the old Valletta Markets building have been more appropriate and handy for all?
Will there be buses scheduled to this new place? Or will customers stand in all kinds of weather with their fish purchases, especially in Summer.
A good idea but not handy for all.

Thanks to EU funds as usual. And to think that Labour was so much against Malta Joining the EU. The Labour party is not ready to govern because its leaders do not have the right foresight and Malta always suffers when they are in office.
No wonder The Nationalist have been repeated voted in office for six times out of the last seven elections. The Maltese know who can be trusted.

Another project that will benefit the Maltese by developing a run down area. As per usual, they come on here to moan and moan.
Well, with all the refurbishemnts taking place (funded mostly by the EU), at least visitors with some vision appreciate the improvements being made.

I hope with these high standards prices will be controlled we pay too much for fish as it is already.
Many families can`t afford to buy fish any more!!!!!!!!!

One hopes that in selecting this location for the project, due account was taken of the subsequent increase in traffic that will inevitably result, together with the somewhat awkward road connection layout in the general area!!
