Mintoff 'remarkably' better

The general condition of former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, who was hospitalised last week, has improved remarkably, the health authorities said.

They said in a statement that Mr Mintoff was moved out of the Intensive Therapy Unit and into the Critical Coronary Care Unit.

Mr Mintoff, 95, was admitted to Mater Dei suffering from pulmonary edema.

It was Sir Paul Boffa, the last decent leader the labour party ever had who introduced the right for women to vote!

"Tal-glieda ghal skejjel b xejn ghal kulhadd"
Really? Mintoff didn't allow me to go to school, he locked me out and I had to study in hiding!
It was the British who introduced compulsory and free education in state schools!

"Sptar u servizzi medici b xejn ghal kulhadd"
By kicking out the doctors to leave us with a crap service at best! Blue Sisters anyone?

"Tad decizjonijiet ghaqlija tieghek biex issahhah l industrija Maltija"
Hah! Good one!

"kburi li jien wiehed mis suldati tal azzar."
I would hang my head in shame if I were you!

@ John Spiteri Jones:
All the words said, merits them all- Architect Dom Mintoff. During his governance there were a lot from the other side who created inconveniences to Mintoff's work, both inside and outside our shores. If it was not him a lot would have not got a Pension. 40 hour week , social benefits, children allowances etc;etc; the list never ends. He is truly the 'Saviour of Malta' and God is giving him more time to stay with his family and us. Keep it UP DOM and may we see you out again. We all remember you saying in your speeches ' MALTA L-EWWEL U QABEL KOLLOX' and not our pockets. You never sent a Minister or an MP abroad without returning with useful benefits to Malta.

It is thanks to this "man" that I was born 1000's of miles away from this island. It is thanks to this man that my father had to leave his family and loved ones behind in search of safety... It is thanks to this man that so many people ended up in hiding and scared to leave their houses... how can you praise someone like this in such a way... the best prime minister ever... give me a break... how sad... how very very sad...

U Mhux hekk! Better than EFA? EFA was not only best prime minister in Malta but also the world's best states man. He gave Malta the best thing anyone can give you democracy. Something no other prime minister in Malta knew the meaning of it.

Andre grech: EFA " best statesman" ? You must be joking !! He was the only prime minister who was found by the courts to have breached the human rights of a Maltese citizen !

And he is the only President Emeritus who kept dabbling in partisan politics when he had retired ! AND IS THE ONLY FORMER PRIME MINISTER WHO APPOINTED HIMSELF ( USING LAWRENCE GONZI) AS PRSIDENT, IN ALL DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD !

Mr Spiteri, your father was one of the few people that was forced to leave the country in those times and I'm sorry for that. Unfortunately with all the good that one does, many people only remember the bad times. What I would like to ask you is; Do you know how many people were forced to leave the country before Dom Mintoff? Do you know how many people were forced to get married in the sacristy? Do you know how many people were buried in the quarries? Was this done when Dom Mintoff was Prime Minister?

Dom Mintoff had his dark side as many do, but it is incomparable to the good he did to the country. Most people who despised him (and still do ) were well off so they could not appreciate this.

David Bezzina

With all due respect....EFA does not even compare to what Mintoff has achieved. If EFA saved democracy,Mintoff made Malta a republic and a democracy.

The one and only true statesman of Malta is Mintoff. He always put Malta and the Maltese before anything else.

@ those who speak of "freedom of speech"
Does history for you begin in 1971. Mine begins in 1960. Go and look for yourselves what used to happen in those days to MLP supporters and their newspapers.

@ those who had to leave Malta
Go and see for yourselves how many Maltese had to leave Malta in the 60's, when the ministers of emigration (yes there was one those days) sent brass bands and made merry to all those who had to leave or else die of hunger. And all this when the world was passing through a golden era in economics!!

Dom Mintoff, who many PN supporters wanted crucified, is still here! Alla jtik aktar ghomor Dumink!
