Millennium Chapel thief jailed
A 39-year-old Sicilian who lives in Rabat was today jailed for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to stealing money from the donation box at the Millennium Chapel.
Gianluca Torres claimed he stole the money because he needed to buy a cot for his baby. He said he went to the chapel to speak to Fr Hilary, but Fr Hilary had people and while he was waiting, he opened the donation box and helped himself. He was caught on CCTV.
Mr Torres told the court that he returned the money.
Police Inspector Luke Bonello said Mr Torres returned €75 but he had taken much more than that.
The Sicilian had various similar convictions in the past.
When the Magistrate asked him if he was sure that he wanted to plead guilty, he replied, through his interpreter, that what was important for him was having a clean conscience.

Compare and contrast - but don't try to make any sense of it, because there isn't.

As per my previous comment of today : Now comes the proof:
From another article of today -
"A 58-year-old woman was this morning jailed for two years suspended for four after she pleaded guilty to five thefts from different rooms at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema, where she worked as a chambermaid."
Do you note the words "suspended for four" above?
I was right. thanks.

But did you note this little detail?
"The Sicilian had various similar convictions in the past."
Now that changes the whole picture.
