Maltese hunters have written to German Ambassador Hubert Ziegler requesting his involvement in curbing the “illegal activities” of Munich-based anti-hunting organisation CABS.
We cannot accept certain measures taken by normal citizens who feel they are above the law and act as jury, judge and executioner
In a letter signed by Joseph Perici Calascione, president of the hunters’ federation, FKNK, pointed out that e-mails sent by St Hubert’s Hunters’ Association were not answered, despite two reminders.
“I fully understand that you may not wish to commit yourself on the issue and that the controversial topic of hunting and trapping in the Maltese islands is one that you would rather keep a distance from. However, the fact that German nationals were involved in what we are claiming to be illegal activities in our country should, in the least, stir your interest,” Dr Perici Calascione said.
Asking for a meeting with the ambassador, he said the action of the ambassador’s co-nationals were “extremely serious” and merited his involvement, particularly because of their public intention to repeat their actions.
“We participate in a passion that is shared by millions across Europe... While we are completely against any form of illegal activities in the field, we cannot accept certain measures taken by normal citizens who feel they are above the law and act as self-proclaimed jury, judge and executioner,” he wrote.
