I would like to express my disgust at the state of a rubbish corner in Mosta.
I live and work in the corner between Ponsomby Street and Anġlu Gatt Street. The rubbish collection in this area is carried out on a daily basis at about 6 p.m.
Since the early hours of the morning, people who live in the area are disposing of their rubbish. The result is that apart from the disgusting smell and the awful scene it has become a magnet for rats.
To add insult to injury, food is being left in plastic containers for the neighbourhood cats, but instead of cats it has turned into a rat restaurant.
It has become normal practice for rubbish to be dumped outside and away from our homes, no matter where it is, as long as it’s away from home and to the dismay of other people.
We discussed this matter already with the Mosta local council who had to send letters to all households in the area with the collection times.
However, if they were sent, they were to no avail and completely ignored.
I wonder when are we going to learn to copy our eurozone counterparts on this matter.
