Conditionally discharged for skinny dipping
Two French boys, aged 16 and 17, were conditionally dicharged today for skinny dipping.
The case happened two days ago shortly after 10.30 p.m. in St George's Bay.
The 17-year-old, who was conditionally discharged for a year, was also convicted of assaulting a police officer during arrest.
Legal aid lawyer Martin Fenech said the boys had taken off their swimsuits while in the water and as soon as they came out of the water they were arrested.
The 16-year-old was conditionally discharged for six months.
Both were fined €15 each.

I also do agree with most of you that there are more important things for police to do, but would you expect them to do if a report comes in that there are naked boys on the beach?? Ignoring the report and dont go?It would mean that they will get into trouble for ignoring a report. Its our law who makes the police arrest them.

What a boring place we live in. Have the police nothing better to do than chase two teenage boys for skinny dipping in the middle of the night , and as for their attacking the police...... dont make me laugh. i bet the boot was on the other foot....literally.

How ridiculous can we be? Teenagers arrested for skinny dipping!!!!! Haven't the ploice got more important things to do? Drugs are everywhere, and every person in every village notice the places where they're sold! Every person except the police, it seems!

If you notice, it's always the police who get the blame. Whether they do their duty or not, it always their fault. So what should they have done, once someone reported the matter to them, tell the caller, its only kids? One should be thankful that we have police patrols in such area, with all these arrogant students here in Paceville, disturbing the residents till 5.00AM daily!

morale of the story : when you need to call the police in Malta (and we all know historicaly how many hours later, when and if they show up) ...just tell them there are 2 naked boys ..........that apparently, should ensure, at least they get on the scene.

The police officers should be given the highest medal for their BRAVERY, they should also be given a promotion for facing a clear danger so valiantly. This is an incredible news item worthy of a front page illustration. God help this nation.

Well the other day in Sliema (about 10pm at night) there was a group of young teenage girls all swimming naked. At least it was in the dark, I couldn't resist the urge because they were making so much noise and the cat whistles from the others on the rocks edging them on. Apparently my son told me it was very common, but what annoyed me most was the noise and shouting till late into the early morning.

I am sure that at the same time nobody was pushing drugs anywhere in Paceville.....
but alas it is easier (and safer) for the cops to be hawk eyed on students for skinny dipping rather than protecting the same students from drug pushers!
what can i say .... keep it up, you are really being of service!

What wrong did they do? Is this the most serious crime happening in that area? Why not arrest the drug pushers who definitely doing more harm then enjoyed you g boys enjoying themselves a warning that nude bathing is prohibited on the island would have been enough

For a mere €15.00 ?? How much is the Lawyer and the Judge paid per hour? I ma sure that the 15 Euros did not even cover the coffees for both parties of today.

@M. Mangion
I cannot speak for Franco, but I would prefer if the police just let them be. Two naked boys (or girls for that matter) do not impress me much.
Only the guilty, insecure and close-minded take notice of them.

@ S. Vella: just because M. Mangion does not share your opinion, as I do as well, does not mean at all, that we are guilty, insecure and close-minded as you so pertinently state. I have a few adjectives to describe you which I choose not to, to be open minded in listening to others' opinions.
@ M Mangion: kumment tajjeb u f'-postu.

Dekor f'pajjiz, jaf ikun cajta jew stupidagni f'pajjiz iehor.
like it's a "dekor" in certain countries that unmarried women cannot have sex, else they're stoned to death... but we find it shocking that they have this kind of "dekor"
but hey... guess what? where do the tourists go? I don't see them going to these countries with harsh laws...
If we depend so much on the tourist industry and the money it generates, sometimes you have to bend over for the extra buck. Instead of arresting these kids , the authorities had better put some more rules about the late nights and the excessive drinking these "english learning students" are up to... I'm sure their english improves with drinking!

What's wrong with skinny dipping. We all did that at night, I mean it did not happen during the day. Think a warning by the policeman was more than enough.
I was savagely attacked a year ago, my car was smashed, and the police did not do anything yet. When contacted the Superintendent I was arrogantly told that these things takes time. They know who did it but not even a slap on the hand.
However, two boys taking off their swimsuit is an urgent matter for the police. Xi dwjjaq ta pajjiz.

They are 16 and 17 - teenagers. That skinny dipping is banned is understandable in Malta's cultural context (even though I don't agree with the ban), but it's just skinny dipping by minors. What did you expect, a jail sentence?

the word assaulting is a little too much..they're 16 yr old kids, how can they assault? perhaps resist arrest would be a better word........and......how can you expect them not to resist arrest if the police are arresting them while they're naked?? they were probably shitting their pants...ah..themselves i mean hahah! st julians police, you are a disgrace, why don't you use that time and resources to look for the 2 missing girls instead of chasing naked french boys' buttocks

The 16-year-old was conditionally discharged for six months. I am sure that with in a week they will leave Malta. Do you know that more than 6 policeman spend 3 days in st Georges bay talking to people. Do you know the cost of this? surely more than €15 not even a parking ticket. Tad dahq Mr Court.

What a waste of resources!
Perhaps the police were looking for the big fish but they were looking at the wrong place - in paceville the big fish are found roaming on the streets and not in 5 feet of water!
