Power cuts
I chuckled reading Power Cuts Lasting Hours (July 18). Last Sunday (July 15) my kitchen ceiling fan stopped abruptly. Alarmed, it was 2 p.m., I turned on a light switch. No electricity! My landline phone was “immobilised” as well. So I called a neighbour on my cell phone. He had no electricity either.
We speculated on the cause as no storms had been predicted. Peco, our electric company, informed us that 98 homes were involved and they were busy “bulldozing”; the cable was underground.
To make a long story short, we had electricity back (after 30 hours in sweltering heat) on Monday at 6.30 p.m. in time for the television news report.
What I missed most was my first morning cup of coffee to start the day.

And your point is what exactly ,madam? That US power supply companies are equally as inept ,or possibly worse, than their one and only Maltese counterpart perhaps?

Tut, tut; don't be too hard on her. I've lived in my house in Chester for over 20 years and in that time I've had one power-cut, during a storm. It lasted one hour.

What amazes me is how there is a list of known power cuts in Malta on a daily basis. What is up? Are they renewing the infrastructure?

Are we supposed to be comforted because your electricity failed?
