Celebrations commemorating the 198th anniversary of the setting up of the police force were also held in Gozo.

The activities started with Mass celebrated by the Gozo police chaplain Mgr Emanuel Curmi, assisted by general chaplain Fr Raymond Bonnici and Mgr Paul Cardona, at the Santa Marija Cemetery chapel in Victoria.

After Mass flowers were placed on the police graves by various people, including Police Commissioner John Rizzo.

Activities continued in Marsalforn, where performances were given by the police band, the precision drill team and the dogs section.

The Malta police formally came into being on July 12, 1814, by virtue of a proclamation issued by Governor Sir Thomas Maitland a few days earlier.
