Mosta to sign Micallef
Mosta continued to bolster their squad ahead of the new season after yesterday they reached an agreement to sign wingback Manolito Micallef from Floriana.
The Blues had sounded their interest in Micallef for a few days and talks have been ongoing between the two parties until an agreement was finally reached on Friday evening.
The 28-year-old Micallef is now expected to put pen to paper on a five-year-deal tomorrow.
Micallef had been on the books of Floriana for the last two seasons and formed part of the Greens squad that won the FA Trophy in 2011.
The former Ħamrun player started pre-season with Floriana and also played for the Greens in the Europa League qualifier against Swedish side IF Elfsborg.
However, in the aftermath of the team’s elimination he informed the Greens committee that he was quitting the club in search of a new challenge.
Micallef is Mosta’s third signing in the space of a week.
On Monday, the Blues finalised the transfer of Malta goalkeeper Justin Haber while on Wednesday they succeeded in luring Bulgarian striker Danail Mitev.
Mitev, who last season was on the books of Sliema Wanderers, signed a one-year contract.
Elsewhere, Birkirkara are giving a trial to Brazilian duo Jhonnattan and Jusselio who were released by Valletta.
The Stripes are also expected to run the rule on Serbian Zoran Vukovic and Dutch forward Kevin Oliveira, who came through the ranks of Feyenoord, during today’s AME Cup against Sliema at the Luxol Stadium.
Midfielder Shaun Bajada and defender Angus Buhagiar failed to agree on a new contract and are expected to seek pastures new.
Ħamrun Spartans have won the race to sign defender Clive Brincat from Marsaxlokk.
The 29-year-old defender, who was also courted by Rabat, has agreed to join the Reds on loan for one season with an option of making his move permanent.
