The inaugural AME Cup 2012 kicks off this evening at the Luxol Grounds with the participation of eight teams hailing from the BOV Premier League.

Daily kick-off times are established at 18:30 and 20:30 and the tournament will be played between today and August 5.

Group A sees Birkirkara, Sliema Wanderers, Qormi and Rabat Ajax and Balzan FC, Mosta, Tarxien Rainbows and Ħamrun Spartans are in Group B.

If after 90 minutes the teams are still tied in a drawn score, penalties will determine a winner and the team winning the shoot-out will be awarded two points and one point to the losers.

Beyond the group stage the first two classified teams will go through to the semi-finals (August 4) and before the final there will be a play-off for third and fourth place. The rest of the teams outside the semis will figure in classification matches to determine fifth to eighth placing.

Besides AME, other sponsors of the tournament include Canas y Tapas, Silstone, TeamSport, Mutti, Misto Cafe, S&S Bathroom and Old Spice.

Playing today: 18:30 Birkirkara vs Sliema; 20:30 Qormi vs Rabat.
Tomorrow: 18:30 Mosta vs Hamrun Spartans; 20:30 Balzan vs Tarxien Rainbows.
