Earlier this month, Maltese pop artist Sophie flew to the UK to give a number of performances at various festivals and one in particular linked to the ongoing schedule of celebrations in the run-up to the London Olympics due to start later this week.

The first gig was a performance at Pope’s Meadow in Luton as part of the celebrations for the arrival of the Olympic Torch, where popular chart act The Wanted was the headlining band. Sophie also performed at Festival Too, going on just before headlining act Pigeon Detectives.

This Norfolk event takes place annually, and is considered to be Europe’s largest free music festival.

Other artists playing at this year’s edition included Soul II Soul, Lemar and Marcus Collins.

On July 7, Sophie took to the stage at World Pride Day in London, singing in front of an audience of thousands that packed out Trafalgar Square, and partying with the likes of Boy George and Deborah Cox.

The Maltese singer’s performances were very well received and prompted a barrage of encouraging comments, among them international fashion icon Gok Wan, who complemented Sophie on her look and performance.

Sophie’s UK gigs are part of the singer’s ongoing UK promotional campaign, which has so far also seen her performing in Dunstable and Huddersfield, with dates in Liverpool, Norwich, Manchester and several other UK cities still to come.

Meanwhile, she recently finished recording her debut, self-penned studio album at Freetime Studios in Malta with the single Sunny, a remake of the Bobby Hebb classic, coming out at the end of summer.
