Forum supports MUMN's objection to Vella
The Forum Unions Maltin has expressed its support with its affiliate, the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses, in its objection to former UHM general secretary Gejtu Vella’s presence during meetings with the Health Department.
Mr Vella has been appointed government consultent on industrial relations.
The Forum said that for Mr Vella to be appointed consultant on industrial relations when he did this in the private sector went against trade unionistic ethics and created a conflict of interest. It could also lead to a situation where talks on collective agreements were compromised.
It was also a mattern of concern because Mr Vella had clearly shown he was prejudiced against the Forum and had done his utmost for it to remain out of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development as well as the European Trade Union Confederation.
Mr Vella had also opposed a Forum idea for a form of unity among unions and was quoted saying he preferred competition, rather than cooperation, among unions.

How can Gejtu Vella be trusted when he opposed MUMN? How can Gejtu Vella be trusted when he was also a high official of UHM? Does his past will bring him to a conflict of interest? What academic education Vella has in industrial relations other than to continue to be the pocket dog of a past union, this time from the party that put him to lead the PN union? Gejtu we all not imbeciles. Do not try to give us past fodder now directly bought from the party that brought you to existence.

What a waste.......this Forum should go to the gutters. Do they know that paramedics are on a strike of a million nature, and do they know that thanks to people like Paul Pace of MUMN we have an endoscopy list which is never ending and a physiotherapy list of waiting patients which is out of this world.......just because they want it their way.......go on dear Forum......support those who leave your sons and daughters for months on end to get an endoscopy appointment.......go on support those who literally think they can run a hospital on all fours.......pity that Gov has decided that Gejtu Vella shouldq take part in talks.....they needed a Mintoff who would have given them a deadline and kicked their asses and brought in foreigners at any expense......

Is the PL pulling strings by any chance?
Gejtu Vella is a highly accomplished trade unionist and the Minister has every right to engage whomsoever he wishes as his consultant just as much as he and anyone else has every right to engage any lawyer or other professional.
I have never come across the opposite party dictating who the other should engage.

What revenge, dear?
Do you know how many head of household are employed in what is termed as a precarious job or whose main job is a part-time?
And when we have all these problems can we afford to pay (out of our taxes) consultants when the government employs thousands upon thousands employees in the public sector?
But then I don't know if you re one of them!

"What an interesting take on democratic principles: you can only appoint consultants who are approved by the people on the opposite side of the table"
So, it says it all!
Since you seem to be well versed on the subject (don't know why!!!), then what qualifications or 'ingredients' make up a consultant in GonziPN's reign? Surely it's not ONLY the eye's colour!
As regards democratic principles which apply to other western countries and HERE seem to fail so miserably do you have any enlightenment?

Maybe G. Vella should first tell us why he jumped ship (i.e. left the UHM) when the civil service collective agreement had expired by 18 months or if his reward as consultant is related to his lacklustre performance in re-negotiaitng this agreement which is now outdated. Of course if ever PL comes to power Vella will be on the forefront of demanding a new agreement, but now his true colours have been revealed.

Prosit MUMN. Is-sur Vella dejjem ħares lejn l-MUMN bħala dik il-union li ħaditlu ammont ta' membri. Xejn ma kien ta' pjaċir għalih jara il-kundizzjonijiet tan-nurses u l-midwives jitjiebu taħt l-MUMN.

Can anyone enlighten both parties i.e the Minister of Health and the Union how to solve the problem honourably to both sides. Those sick people who are suffering because are unable to acquire the Health service are not interested to hear or read bla, bla. Bear in mind that those who suffer most are people of limited means. Those who can afford can obtain the service from private hospitals.

Remember George that these are paid from your and my tax. If you are happy with this situation then I am NOT!
Why should the government need consultants when it employs thousand upon thousand of employees?
You should have asked: Is it jobs for the boys (blue ones)?

And if because of this statement he looses his consultancy, do you expect him to go and register for work?
Such a blue eyed boy!
I wish someone would enlighten me as to how consultancies are given by the government. I mean is there a policy that regulates them, are they made following a public all for application or are they freely handed out? An innocent question!

It is a question of viewpoints.
One can also argue that if you can manage to engage a consultant from the ranks of competition, it is Capitalistic!
