More police officers gave evidence today in the case against suspended police inspector Jeffrey Cilia who is pleading not guilty to threatening four colleagues, including Police Commissioner John Rizzo, while drunk.

Testifying this morning, PC Michael Galdes said that on March 29 at around 10 p.m., Mr Cilia turned up at police headquarter driving a white BMW X5.

He came out of the car, spat on the police commissioner’s car and said referring to the car “The Nationalists gave him that”.

Shortly after, two police mobile squad cars arrived and the commissioner came out of the headquarters. There was an exchange of words.

An officer who had been in one of the cars, Alessio Spiteri, said the mobile squad received a phone call instructing them to go to the headquarters, where they found Mr Cilia at the main gate. Mr Cilia left and the cars followed him.

PC Spiteri said Mr Cilia drove round Sa Maison, through Msida and back up to the police headquarters, where they were joined by another car and blocked his way.

The police went to speak to him, he wound down the window and he verbally attacked the police uniform. He also called the police commissioner “a cabbage from Cospicua”.

Mr Spiteri said that a colleague used his torch to look into Mr Cilia’s car and the latter told him “what do you expect to find, your mother?”.

At one point Mr Cilia turned to the Commissioner and told him “I am your worst enemy, your wife’s worst enemy, your children’s worst enemy and their children’s worst enemy”.

Mr Spiteri said Mr Cilia looked completely out of his senses and the police ordered a breathalyser test.

PC Jeffrey Abela said he was in the mobile car following Mr Cilia after he left the headquarters but his Mr Cilia’s BMW was too fast for the police car and they lost him,.

Another mobile squad car managed to find him and after he drove again to the headquarters, told the officers “you came to arrest me, I could have gotten you into trouble so many times”.

The case continues.
