Ta’ Xbiex-based Shireburn Software has launched Vault, its automated software solution designed to securely back up corporate and personal data automatically from servers, workstations or laptops running Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X or Linux to encrypted, secure data centres and NAS and local devices.

Data loss through hardware failure, theft or damage can be very costly and inconvenient, and while many back up their data to tape, automated offsite backup provides an additional level of security for little cost.

Vault allows companies to have easier, more frequent back ups so that expensive and embarrassing data losses can be prevented and ensures data is backed up and protected continuously, not only at night.

It synchronises only data changed since the last backup. Backups typically complete within a few minutes and in the event of a backup not being taken for a period of time, users are notified by e-mail. It runs in the background, very much like a virus scanner, and constantly monitors important files and backs up latest work.

“The solution eliminates the weakest link in traditional backups: human intervention, as well as the risks associated with loss or theft while transporting media offsite. In the event of data loss, you can simply download your data or, in the case of a major disaster, have a technician deliver your data on external media right to your door within hours of the data loss event,” Mr de Giorgio said.
