Bombing attack on Israeli tourists condemned
A fatal bombing attack on Israeli tourists in Bulgaria yesterday has been strongly condemned by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg.
The blast occurred at around 4 p.m. on a bus carrying Israelis who had flown in to Bourgas, the second largest city on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, setting off a fire that spread to another two buses
The explosion reportedly killed at least seven and injured more than 30 people, some of whom were in critical conditions.
Dr Borg also expressed his condolences with the victims and their families, as well as the governments and people of Bulgaria and Israel.

@A. MICALLEF (19th July 18:03). A.Micallef, imperfect as it is - only god is perfect, remember! - I am loathe to demolish the USA as the alternative policing one couldn't bear thinking about. Not forgetting that the USA and the West generally give the WHOLE planet things we could not live without, e.g. oil and how to extract it, inventions of all sorts to facilitate this, and so on.
The Jews suffered something terrible in the last war and, maybe as an appeasement(I am not a historian as, on the whole, I am not interested in a subject that is so subjective - as in one guy is a hero in his own country but a rogue in another), Israel was awarded to the Jews probably inspired by some quote found in an ancient, none-too-credible scrap of pap-yrus, clay tablet, whatever. It is interesting to note that when the Berlin Wall came down - a free new world order but with a terrible fallout (not least a Cold War that has still to go away, vide. the USA versus the Russian Bear(?) over Syria, for instance - Russian Jews fled to their new homeland where they created a demographic upheaval such were their numbers. And the Jews already established in Israel made no bones about letting them know that they were creating a problem and were therefore not welcome (a strong insight into human nature's foibles, there!). So, Israel's existence is tenuous but agenda ridden for the USA and for Israel as a sovereign country in its own right by now. The conflict has been around for decades and I cannot see it ever ending. We create these anomalous situations and then we are surprised we cannot find a clean solution when all hell is let loose?! Other instances 'antipatiċi' are Gibraltar/UK/Spain and Falklands/UK/Argentina. This last one with a deadly war to its credit. Time was when we had no frontiers; then came the time when their need became necessary. These failed because as humans, we are wired to fail when it comes to integration with others. We know this, or some have the guts to admit this integration between humans beyond a flimsy, chatty level is not on the books for a variety of reasons that can, or can not, be helped. In desperation, some now think that a borderless planet is the way forward. Some are already putting this into practise and of course it wont work. Of course I sympathise with the Palestinians who give as much as they get, and why wouldn't they. But I can understand the presence of Israel as a pawn. And that is MY conflict. Meddle with politics and this is what one gets. Problems abound but solutions are never fairly and squarely cleanly cut.
@Andy Farrugia, my lost comment was too convoluted - what else?! - for me to remember and re-submit. Only snippets come to mind and that would not be quite adequate enough for a skirmisher like yourself. And Andy so doesn't do snippets! - reminds me of circumcisions for some swine of a reason - because he prefers the whole hog (ritually slaughtered, of course). Sorry I got it all wrong with the gourmet titbits. I was only trying to get your juices flowing. Honest! Maybe you prefer cucumber finger-sarnies like Queen Victoria used to nibble on, and feed her Albert at the foot of her throne. Vicky, she who denied the existence of anything she did not like. Well, she was a queen after all. Off with (Andy's) fingers if he rejects her sandwiches as too insipid. As a Malteser he prefers stronger fillers between his crusts.

Lets also remember:
The picture of a palestinian father holding his young boy whilst the israeli soldiers shoot them dead.
The 1500 women and children killed and maimed by israeli air raids and chemical gas released
on Gaza.
The thousands including children held and tortured in israeli prisons.
The thousands of women and children murdered by israeli air raids in Lebnon.
The arrogance of israel in not obeying UN resolutions.
The secret nuclear armaments that israel has in stock and ready to use.
The peace activists on a peace ship delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, raided by
state israeli soldiers and murdered those on board.
Violence breeds violence, and the world is tired with the behaviour of israel !

And when is our government going to condemn Palestinian children in prison, Palestinians in prison without trial for many years, Palestinian prisoners not allowed visits by their families for five years? Barabaric decisions all these but not one voice from the West is raised. Israel represses its prisoners and not a peep from the USA.

@Andy Farrugia. You make it sound like any old skirmish between two lizards on heat. But then you eat those (the skirmishes, not the lizards. Snails maybe. Locusts of biblical proportions when in Israel, likewise. And frogs when holidaying on the Cote d'Azur, probably, if only once. But lizards from l-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa, that giammai/jamais/never/qatt!) with bread and butter.
I responded to your challenged, it was a longish response but unfortunately it was lost. I did not save it - why would I save it? what am I? a megalo-m...? So now, alas! it is forever lost. Like my Paradiso.
I wouldn't meddle with Iran (where divorce, presumably, is allowed, says he nodding toward a Vassal of a strong faith, and a faux hyperbole). But nor would I meddle with a Palestine who have a point.
Israel because of a biblical Promised Land?! No, I didn't thing you'd think so either. So don't disappoint me.

Xuereb, since you happen to ask, I am particularly unadventurous in my eating habits, whether at the Cote d'Azur (which I have never had the pleasure of visiting) or L-Ahrax tal- Mellieha (which I visited once in the company of congenial friends). So, Xuereb, kindly strike out lizards (whether on heat or not), frogs, snails, locusts etc., etc., from any menu which you might hope to entertain me with. As for your lost response to my challenge, on another thread so as not confuse eavesdroppers, well it couldn't have been so memorable, unlike Milton's epic, if you were unable to provide an encore. Finally, I admit to be slightly meddlesome, especially when it comes to condemning those who are "hell-bent" on Israel's annihilation, without however being insensitive to the undeniable rights of others for self-determination. Did I disappoint you, Xuereb? Alas, I thought I would.

@George Attard. I'm assuming that your question was meant as a joke George. Your present Government are too concerned with fighting amongst themselves, filling their pockets at the expense of the people, building unnecessary Wendy houses and trying to hang onto their jobs to even think about something as trivial as the security of the nation.
George Attard

unfortuneatly James you're probably right but as a citizen I'm concerned about my security, whether it is against terrorism or any other threat. While I don't feel the Maltese themselves need to be worried, an attack against enemies of Israel and the United States on our soil is a likely scenerio which needs to be considered.

Israel is occupying land which is not theirs! Fullstop! Israel should be PALESTINE !!! It was he british after war who took thousands of thousands Jews to Palestine, fought a war, and with the help of the UK and the USA won this war!!!
Isra has ALOT to think about! I stl condemn this attack as these where innocent individuals but the fact remains that jews in the world are sowing hatred... A typical example is the History Channel... Only 6.5 million Jews where killed! Only they are mentioned! The rest who died, catholics, muslims, orthodox, gays, people with a disability the millions of these killed are considered rubbish by the jews as they are never ever mentioned on the media which they stongly control!

Since 2010 thousands of Israeli's have been choosing Malta as thier holiday destination. What steps are we taking as a nation to protect ourselves from an attack like this on our shores?
LOUIS JOSEPH BORG

well mr attard only last week i gave directions to ten israelis people on a holiday in malta!
however it is israel itself that has to protect its people bu ending the 45 year old occupation of palestnian land and agree to a full peace treaty with the arab world and stop harassing iran!
Andy Farrugia

"...stop harassing Iran"? Who called Israel "a cancer" and promised to " wipe it off the map"? Who repeatedly calls "the Holocaust" a conspiracy theory? Are you for real?

Jul 19th 2012, 11:41
@ Louis ......... harassing Iran?????? That's a rather naive viewpoint at best.
George Attard
Jul 19th 2012, 11:55
Well, so long as they are coming to our shores, we have to consider Malta as a target just like the rest of the world is. This is of course is not only from Israelis but also Americans as they too are considered targets abroad by Islamic extremists. We cannot be naive to think that no one will plot an attack on our soil against these people. It's not a matter of 'if' but rather 'when'.

@Louise Joseph Borg
While I do agree with you that Israel is indeed occupying Palestinian land illegally, one cannot agree with you that Israel is harassing Iran...
The Arab world is fighting a right cause to end the occupation of the Palestine, the problem is that it is fighting horribly wrong...

@Louis - Minus the Iran part I couldnt agree more... Many of my close friends are Palestinian refugees and the situation sickens me to the core. On speaking to a number of Palestinians and Israelis on the matter; many seem to think that at this stage the country adopt a shared nationality 'Israel & Palestine' whilst unifying the land itself. The Israelis wont give back the land they currently occupy and a two state system wont work either since the Holy Land is Holy in both Chrtistianity and Islam... Who would claim it?
