Mintoff ‘critical’
Former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon in critical condition and was under intensive care last night.
The ex-Labour leader, 96 next month, was treated in the resuscitation area of the Accident and Emergency Department at 5.30 p.m. and then transferred to the Intensive Therapy Unit, the government said in a statement.
The cardiology team responsible for his care described his condition as critical.
Mr Mintoff has been in and out of hospital frequently over the last few months. He was last there in February, also in a critical condition suffering from a severe chest infection and heart failure. But he managed to pull through.
He was admitted to Mater Dei and Gozo general hospital several times last year.
